Went there with my wife and our 4 year old a week ago. I am only writing this review now because I was checking out the cafe up the block next to thavma and saw the red pin. We were seated quickly and the place seemed busy. We thought we were in for a treat! The waitress stopped by to see if we were ready, but being there our first time, we hadn't navigated the menu and it was fairly large. She did not offer any suggestions to help, so we pressed on. When we were ready to order, the waitress disappeared for 10 minutes. As we placed the order , we asked if they would bring my son crayons and something to color. The Waitress told me I would have to walk up to the hostess and ask her for this. Ok...I walked over and was told they ran out. BTW, didnt see a single table with kids drawing anything, but I digress. It took some time for the food to arrive but it looked ok. My wife hated her meal and my Matza Brei tasted like cardboard. The sour cream and "pink" apple sauce did not help moisten this. I wont even mention the after effects on our digestive tract leading us to believe the food was managed with unclean hands. Needless to say, that was the first and last time we go. Guy Fiery mentioned how great the apple pie was, and we understand why he limited one dessert item from many others on the menu. Truly a...
Read moreI’ve been going to the diner for many years. Listen, we all like the old fashion classical situation, but it needs to be knocked down and refinished it’s just to the bathrooms are not up to par. You can’t even get them to people you you’re just about kissing each other on the toilet paper you can put your finger right through it. The waitresses are all working numerous tables and they don’t share enough personality with you. They seem like every time you ask them for something that they have an attitude on their face, you know what they want to 15 to 20 at least percent on their tip you feel bad because you’re working as a waitress which I’ve been in the business for over 30 years that’s all I have to say with that but we all have to do what we have to do I asked for something and I thought I I thought I killed somebody And then the lady at the register or now she was hostessing I think she’s the partner for many years. She seems like she’s always unhappy with that face. It’s terrible to see this type of New Jersey diner my advice, cut the menu in half save the food cost give out better quality and what the price is they’re charging $16 for a sandwich. Wow I don’t know I don’t see these...
Read moreI like it here. Back when i first moved to jersey, i didnt get the hype about diners. I thought with all the hype it meant it was offering michelin level food and high fine dining.
Thats not what this is. Its about community. Its about comfort. Its about knowing this is your spot to go when you dont feel like cooking. Your kids spot to go to after school or hang outs. Its where you take your little ones for a chocolate waffle because you want to celebrate. And its always going to be there.
The food is good but its not gonna be like one of these flashy new spots with new fusion stuff. But its good, and its the local spot. Where youll most likely bump into friends and your kids friends. Where the same sweet old couple will be at the booth and when you walk by, they smile sweetly at you and comment about how precious your kid is. Where one day ill be the old man in the booth commenting on how the next generation is so cute.
I didnt know that when i first moved here and rated it a 3 star. I know better now.
Itll always be here for you and your friends and your community with good old fashioned comfort food and the occasional new dish if you feel like...
