It's sad to be negative because this has been my favorite Italian restaurant for decades.
We were offered bread while we waited for food but it never arrived.
I inquired about a dish they used to have on the menu. Tortellini with ham ( which usually means precutto in Italian cooking) peas in a cream sauce.
The waitress checked with the chef and I was told, "Yes he could make it but without the peas because they didn't have peas. He can make it with mushrooms." I told the waitress, "I'll take the tortellini but without the mushrooms." One of my daughters had a Caesar salad while the other daughter had spaghetti with 1 meatball.
When the food was ready and served we were asked if we wanted a refill of water. That was the only time our server returned.
My daughter ate part of her meatball and asked me to taste it. Although it wasn't raw, it was very mushy and lacking flavor. She didn't even bother to take her leftovers home.
Usually when you order pasta the server offers fresh cheese grated over your food but the restaurant only has a shaker with cheese. My meal was bland and lacked flavor. It was made with cubed ham and not prosciutto and mushrooms were added even after I ordered the tortellini without mushrooms.
When we were finished eating and needing to leave we sat at our table and waited. Through the kitchen door window I could see the server leaning against the counter talking with her coworker. My daughter had to go find someone to get the bill. At this point, we were the only diners left in the restaurant so clearly the servers weren't overwhelmed with other diners.
I told my daughter who took me to Napoli for my birthday that she shouldn't leave a tip for such bad service. She reminded me that the chef made a custom dish so she should leave a tip.
It should have been a red flag that at lunchtime on a Friday there were only three tables with diners.
Before I even got on the freeway my daughter's stomach started hurting. That lasted for a few hours.
When I tried to reheat my food for dinner it heated up so badly I just threw it away.
I don't know if Napoli has new owners but I felt no amore' eating at what was once an...
Read moreWith the marvelous assistance of Napoli’s event organizer, Blanca, superb waiters Rafael and Juan, and their two fantastic chefs (sorry I didn’t get their names), I was able to put on a terrific 80th birthday party for my husband and 30 of his friends at this restaurant. With blessedly little effort, thanks to Blanca and a dear friend who helped me, it turned out to be a wonderful evening.
Everybody left raving about the venue and the food (wow, the food!); also the staff. When Blanca discovered, the morning of the event, we had a mix-up in the timing (almost certainly my fault), she seamlessly switched the banquet room to what turned out, in fact, to be the very best option for our group—a bright and airy section of the regular dining rooms, but separated from the other diners by the division created by the lobby. We had this part all to ourselves, with no one to follow us coming in. Blanca beautifully set up a nice long table, and helped us form a place for our TV on which to show pictures of my husband’s long and eventful life.
In short, our event was delightful in every way, and my husband was thrilled. My friend and I were allowed to decorate during the afternoon, and Blanca even helped in this! If we were missing it, she supplied it. She kept our ice cream in their freezers, and our cake in their fridge (though the very reasonable per-person price included dessert—a fabulous tiramisu!--which some took home with them). She was lovely—calm and cheerful, always ready to help, but unobtrusive and kind.
If you need to plan an event, you want it to be superb, but you’re a busy person and don’t have much time, this is the place for you. We’d do it again here in a heartbeat. Just ask my husband—he could not have been...
Read moreNapoli Italian Restaurant in Loma Linda offers a wide variety of Italian dishes; however, the service and food left us feeling underwhelmed.
We came at opening on a weekend and, perhaps, that is where it went wrong. The lady who opened up the restaurant opened later than the time posted on the door but that was no biggie. When we got inside, she had us wait near the door. Clearly, she was the only one at this establishment.
She seemed a bit bothered as we waited for her to seat us. But it took her even longer to come back and take our orders. She seemed to like the other guests near us because she didn't exude a positive vibe with us as she did with them.
Of course, when the service isn't good, it seems to dampen the quality of the food as well. We ordered Grilled Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo, Ziti al Forno + Italian Sausage, Lasagna Classico, and Linguini Pescatore. The complimentary Italian bread was delicious and probably our favorite from any Italian establishment. The Alfredo sauce was creamy and I preferred it over the Ziti al Forno.
Overall, the food was good but the service could have been better. The ambiance was ok but I’m sure it’s at its best in the evening hours. Again, the service just wasn’t what we expected. It may take some time before we decide...
