So where do I start. I guess to get you to read further I’ll say that the manager there tried to get me arrested called the cops on me and kicked me out. Now lemme break it down 🕺 When I first arrived there due to a late flight I got there at nearly 3am and also found out that they had cancelled my original reservation so I had to rebook that night and the staff was super helpful with that. I’m not sure the gentleman’s name but he was and old African American fellow and he was a huge help. But I digress. He books me in a room without knowing it did not have a working ac… didn’t bother me at first because I passed out due to being in the airport for 18+ hours. Once I noticed the problem it took 2 days before they switched my room. It was nice to have ac but here’s where it gets wild. I stay on rotation for 26 days at a time working in hospitals. And I travel with a California compliant rifle (sks) because I shoot for a hobby every time I’m home and on rotation. So I had it out sitting on it’s hard case and I had the DO NOT ENTER tag on my door my coworker watched them let themselves in to my room when I left to get in the work van they took photos of my belongings and left, so I raced back in and found them in the hallway and when I brought it up the first tried to deny entering my room at all. but then the short bearded liberal arts leprechaun I’m not joking that is what this young lgbt gentleman looked like , he was the manager and the one taking photos of my belongings. He said in a condescending nice tone that I needed to leave and I said I’d be happy to. He had said that because I covered my fire alarms while cooking I was violating a health code and I couldn’t stay anymore but the truth is the Hallway smelled like weed and he wanted to get the gun owner in trouble. So he called the cops because I guess somehow he felt threatened by a law abiding citizen. Oh and here’s the kicker the cops arrived well after I packed up so if I was an actual threat that response time is more than enough to understand why I have guns and travel with them. Now I walk straight over to the cops and fill them in on my situation and they were very understanding primarily because they were gun lovers and on top of that I knew the laws and could hold my own in that conversation. Then the cops walked me to my room looked around agreed that it didn’t smell like pot smoke and that it just smelled like a burnt toaster they then escorted me to my vehicle where I packed my belongings and when I went back inside to check out they told my I can’t have my receipt because of the early checkout I can’t receive it till the following day when my stay ends so I asked if I can come back to get my paper receipt tomorrow and the rude leprechaun said I’m not welcome back there but my coworker can come get it. So they charged me extra for exercising my rights, and kicked me out. Terrible location. If you travel with any valuables or fire arms do not stay here. They will let themselves in your room while you’re not there and use the hallway smelling like weed as an excuse. Like come on it’s California every one here is always smoking. I’d also like to add that this all happened on my lunch break I had to spend the other half of the day fixing this and checking into a different hotel. Luckily I went to the newer location on Richardson near by and told them my story they were nice enough to book me in a suite for my trouble at the price of a regular room. I still love staying at Marriott but will never recommend or stay at...
Read moreTerrible place. Here is a copy of the email we sent after our stay. We have never even received any response to the email, no apologies for the roach infestation or for the running toilet or for being LOCKED out of the building at 5:30 AM. The toilet ran and kept us up. Please refer to the attached PHOTOS OF THE COCKROACHES. Absolutely repulsive. And they COMPLETELY LOCK THE BUILDING FROM 10:00 PM TO 7:00 AM. That's right, you can't even enter WITH A KEY!!! A fact they failed to bring to my attention upon checking in, so I ended up getting LOCKED OUT OF THE BUILDING AT 5:30 AM!
When we originally complained, Ms. Siano basically said the leaking toilet was basically our fault. Here was her response: "Did you bring any of these issues up with the front desk during your stay? This is the first we are haring about any issues with your room including, toilet not functioning properly, roaches."
Re: Residence Inn Stay 12/28 - 12/29, Confirmation #85429309 - Photos and Response to Chat
Dear M. Siano:
Your response to my complaint bordered on unfortunate. I do not appreciate the back-handed manner in which you place fault on us for the issues that we went through. Now, on top of all the other issues, I also have a customer service complaint. I am including Assistant General Manager Philip LaDuke on this communication; and frankly am just irritated enough to move along up the corporate ladder.
The Toilet Issue: We did not notice the toilet running until 2:00 AM, when I had to get up to use it. At that time, it kept us up for a good deal of time; after jiggling the handle, I ended up turning the toilet off. I ended up being unable to get back to sleep. We did not wish to call maintenance at 2:45 AM. But when upon my return after I was locked out of the building at 5:30 AM (more on that below), I did mention it to the front-desk gentleman, who even requested my room number, but evidently did not bother to note down my complaint. Also present was the kitchen attendant, who seemed to have some understanding of plumbing, since he confidently diagnosed the problem as pertaining to the "toilet flapper." The Roach Infestation: Assuming you are not trying to place blame on us for your roach issue, I am attaching photos of two of the creatures who shared our room last night. The Locked Outside Doors: I am happy that you went to the trouble to check our rental history with your property. You likely also observed that our previous stays have been warmly welcoming, and we enjoyed them. What you would not have observed is that this is the first time that I had to work the day following my stay. I go to bed early and frankly had no reason to leave the hotel during the hours 10pm to 7am. Your hotel is certainly entitled to establish whatever magical pixie dust policies you believe necessary to secure your property, so you had no reason to mention your rationale for the policy. My issue is that a little paper on the wall near the door is not sufficient notice at 5:30 on a cold December morning.
Our stay was not pleasant or relaxing; and your unfortunate response exacerbated the issue. I am working this morning, and have expended far too much time...
Read moreI want to start by expressing my deep disappointment with the way this company handles situations involving its employees.
I recently started working at this Residence Inn as a night auditor, a position responsible for accounting and revenue reports. Initially, I felt things were going well as I was trained and understood my responsibilities. However, things took a turn during an interaction with a coworker. One evening, a guest asked to use the outside amenities, and being new, I wasn’t sure where the light switches were. I approached a coworker I had become familiar with, asking for assistance. Instead of helping, they responded with anger, claiming it was against policy and that they wouldn’t show me how to turn on the lights, regardless of what I said.
I decided to figure it out myself and turned the lights on for the guest. Afterward, I was confronted by this coworker, who came at me aggressively, shouting that he would turn the lights off if I didn’t. I told him he wasn’t responsible for the front desk and should remain in his role as housekeeping. He then claimed to be the security guard, but I pointed out that he wasn’t a licensed security officer in California, so his claim was irrelevant.
At some point, he began recording the incident, and later, management told me they had a video of the confrontation. I immediately emailed management that night to explain the situation, and they acknowledged it, promising to investigate further.
I continued with my shifts as usual, but this coworker was scheduled for a shift with me shortly afterward and failed to show up, resulting in his absence being marked.
The following week, I was informed by the general manager, Sarah, that after HR reviewed everything, I was being terminated. Despite being the one who was confronted and not the aggressor, I was told I was being fired because I raised my voice during the encounter. Although I never physically confronted this person, they claimed they couldn't see that part on camera.
I later spoke with HR, and they told me that because of the length of time the coworker had been with the company, they would side with him over me. I expressed that I felt discriminated against, as I am the only African American employee at this location, apart from an older employee, who seems to be treated with more respect. HR dismissed my concerns, saying their decision was final and that I would be disciplined, while my coworker would not.
In light of this situation, I feel compelled to take legal action for wrongful termination and discrimination.
Additionally, I want to warn future guests and potential employees about this location. The cleanliness of the rooms and breakfast area does not meet standard Marriott expectations, and I have pictures to support this claim. The hotel operates with its own rules, not following Marriott policies, and I would strongly caution anyone considering staying here or working here, especially if you're African American, as the work environment does not seem to be...
