Shannon's Deli — Restaurant in Lombard

Oh my goodness. If I could give 0 stars, I would. My non-profit group booked a dinner here for our annual awards event. The tables, chairs, and walls were incredibly sticky. The floors were dirty. The appetizers were ok, but a bit unusual. The staff were putting out saltine crackers with the appetizers. They were removing them from the soup packets as they were walking to the table to put them out. What?! The 'food' was memorable for all the wrong reasons.

The dinner-DINNER-was supposed to be a burger bar and chicken sandwich bar for 30 people. They made a tray of homemade chips, two different salads, a tray of brownies, and TWO SANDWICHES-one burger and one chicken sandwich- FOR THIRTY PEOPLE TO SHARE.

I can't make this up. The chef left and can't make food. The chips taste old and oily. The brownies were dry. While the two staff members that were here tried to figure out how to fix the situation, it was not fixed.

What an absolute...

Great staff. I work in the area weekly and this deli has been a mainstay for about six months. When I need it to go I'm in, ordered, and gone in about 10 minutes even when there is a line. When I eat in they have TV's, plenty of seating, and free refills on fountain drinks.

Full sandwich+drink+side (recommend potato salad) runs about $12. A couple dollars more than chain sandwich joints, but the quality here is vastly superior. Meats are tasty and plentiful, you will never think they are cheap. Its less than a Jewish deli portion, but by just enough that the portion isn't completely absurd. Veggies are always fresh and crisp.

Deviated from my usual and tried the chicken wing special once, they were pleasant. I get the feeling they don't do anything unless they feel they can...

Very nice! Order at the counter when you come in. There is a paper menu which lists more items than the chalkboard, so check that out. A daily special is chalked on the wall above the cashier - today it was the cuban sami. I had a salad and my wife had a grilled chicken sami with chips, and she said it was top-notch. We ate on the deck upstairs, which was very pleasant. They have a soda fountain with coke products, and also fresh-brewed iced tea with either sugar or artificial sweeteners available. We definitely will be back for lunch again.
