My friend and I walked into this restaurant and our jaws literally dropped. Not only is it the biggest and most extensive buffet I've ever seen at an Indian restaurant, but it featured many of the South Indian dishes I know from childhood. Heaven! There was puliyogare (tamarind rice), idli, and a dosa comes freshly made to the table as part of the deal. Everything was delicious, fresh, and bursting with flavor. There were vegetarian, vegan and non-veg options. The place was filled with Indian customers, which tells you it's the real deal.
Another reviewer mentioned that the grill in the name was misleading, but Indian grilling refers to the clay oven, in which the bread is grilled, and the tandoori dishes cooked. It's not the same as American grilling.
There were extensive bakery options (maybe ten little petit four styled offerings,) in addition to Indian dessert staples like kheer (rice pudding), gulab jamun (one of the most famous of Indian desserts, little sweet globes nestled into a sweet syrup. There was also a caramel pudding that was delish.
Most Indian restaurants offer primarily North Indian cuisine, which in my opinion is heavier with cream sauces, and somewhat blander. But if that's your thing, they still had butter paneer and butter chicken, and a few other North Indian dishes on the spread.
It's a real gem to find a South Indian one that breaks that norm here in Colorado. There are many of these Woodlands style restaurants on the East Coast and in other parts of the country, but this is the first one here and it offers so much more than the traditional ones I have been to.
Some of my favorite dishes: puliyogare, with the sour zing of tamarind and peanuts. Goes with all the curries. Historically this dish was prepared for travelers as it keeps well for a number of days. Idli: fluffy little cakes for dipping in various sauces. You can drizzle sambar on top, soaking the little discs into tiny melt-in-your-mouth jewels. There was shrimp madras which went great with everything. Dosa (my personal favorite, made from rice and lentils) came with traditional potato masala tucked inside its folds. Think of it as an Indian crepe or kind of like injera, at least texture-wise. Tear off pieces of it and scoop up the masala, or curries, and don't forget to grab the extra sauces on the buffet: there's peanut, coconut, sambar (lentil), and tomato. All delicious. Dosas are finger food at its finest.
Another facet of Indian food is that there are usually many dishes on the tables. This culture rarely does one pot meals, and this restaurant follows suit by offering so many choices that you could have three separate platefuls and never duplicate a dish.
This is a relatively new restaurant, and definitely worth checking out. If you want the traditional North Indian cuisine there are plenty of options that have been around Denver for years, but if you want to try something new and amazing, I highly recommend this spot.
Lastly the staff was incredibly sweet and highly attentive. They are young, enthusiastic and a delight. I can't wait to go again and bring all my friends! Highly, highly recommend. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Take it from a South...
Read moreI must say I was pleasntly surprised by the quality and freshness of the food. I am a vegetarian and chose to not go out to eat most days because there just are not alot of options for us out there. I walked in at 8:30 pm to multiple hot buffet lines going. One specifically set up for vegetarians. At first I had to do a little research as to what food items were what as I do not have a ton of knowledge of Indian cuisine. Only took me 2 times up to the buffet to figure out what I liked and what I didn't. Not much on the dislike list! Everything was fresh. The deserts and salads looked and taste great as well.
Buffet price is $29 and some change without a beverage (water is served on the table). However, there really are alot of food options to chose from. One of the servers did come by and offer me several different drink options, I opted out of the soft drink and other beverages mentioned and decided to stick with water. I tried an orange punch that was available by the salads and fruits. It was slightly sweet and went well with my desserts.
I would recommend for large groups and family get togethers if you want to try something new and fresh in the Lonetree area. Also if you are not familiar with Indian cuisine this is a good way to sample items with little waste. Come in with an open mind, embrace the freshness of the food and you won't leave disappointed. Also make sure to ask for recommendations as their team will point you in the right direction.
I will be back as I'm a local to the entertainment district and a manager at restaurant a couple parking lots away. Keep it up Garnish! You...
Read moreThis was the worst restaurant experience for us. We hosted a lunch for 9 people at this place. First of all most of the food was cold and felt stale. The dessert section had literally 2 options, to which the waitress told us that the baker is out right now. Then when we started eating, we ordered Garlic Naan’s for everyone. After 30 minutes, we didn’t receive our Naan’s and we asked what is going with it. They told us that they are working on it. Still didn’t receive anything after 45 minutes and we asked what is going on. They told us that oven is not getting hot and that’s why they won’t be able to give us Naan’s. We were okay at this point, but to our surprise the table next to us got their Naan’s even thought they came after a long time after us. This was super frustrating and we felt discriminated at this place. While paying we asked the person taking our bill, why did we not receive our Naan, since he took our bill, he just smiled and laughed us out. This was absolutely horrendous experience and I’ll recommend everyone to stay away from this place. Later when I called to speak with the Manager (Vikram) he told us he is sorry and he can offer us 10% discount next time we are there without even acknowledging the problem. When we asked him to share the contact information of the owner, he told us he cannot do that. So I really hope, the owner sees this and reaches out to us to apologize after this extremely...
