Overall my experience was not good right after they handed me the customer receipt that charged $10 for one piece of chocolate fudge filling in a kind of hard chewy white starch coated in flaky hard wheat. It was not pleasant when the receipt and the written price over the "dessert baklava" were very different, and I did not get it "the art of making Turkish dessert" over this particular chocolate filling piece even after reading the press claiming some of the store's distinctive features.
The ice cream was $6 per scoop, which I think all right given that the berry flavor and texture was persuasive. The store looked clean and decorated. There was no such "ice cream show" that somehow an adult me was thankful of not seeing. What I wanted to see, what they charged was the same as what they indicated they would charge, was not seen. I don't want to become a disputing customer everywhere I go, but is it too much to ask for nowadays? Because after paying for an said Delight item you still don't know what the price is, whether 31 dollars (as they told me) or 3.10 dollars (as should be the worth of it) or 10 dollars (as it was charged), just a wild business conduct.
We were at the beach just to get a little bit of "ocean delight" on Saturday morning. It was not our intention to check out any store over there but their Galata Ice Cream was so eye catching in painted pink that we made ourselves in for a quick convenient treat before departing the town. Prior to today after research, I had not known anything about their history in Turkey or how special the store was, as claimed by the press/social media. Even after reading about them and said special pistachios sweet baklava, I am still unconvinced of the claimed pleasure, for this experience of a deception than a delight. Maybe I was just ignorant, not to get any pistachios coating of a pomegranate cream filling; what I got was a common mono-flavored chocolate fudge in the teeth-exercising starchy crust.
The first time and a bad time and say goodbye! This store was not for me eating the soul and the sweat behind a Turkish dessert, it was...

Read moreWe happened to stumble upon Gelata Ice Cream after lunch while looking for a place to have ice cream. We didn’t expect it to be a Turkish ice cream shop, but we instantly knew it was a rare and special find. All the counter attendants were men, and they were extremely helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable about their products, from gelato and coffee to desserts. The waiter who assisted us with our gelato order even tried to greet me in my own language. The whole atmosphere was very tourist-friendly and welcoming!
The highlight of the visit was seeing the tricks the servers played at the ice cream stands, the kind you usually see on TikTok. We didn’t order dessert but had coffee and gelato, both of which were simply perfect and one-of-a-kind! The gelato was firm, didn’t melt quickly, and didn’t become watery. I highly recommend this place to both locals...
