This place is always packed! I walk past it everytime I go to pick up some coffee on 2nd Street in Long Beach. A great restaurant is always packed! Always! And with it being New Year's Day, and being that I am not hungover, I decided to maximize this year by trying everything that I have not tried, and only repeating things that have been amazing in the past or at least not horrible to deal with. I am always down for spontaneous food spots, and this place did not disappoint. I grabbed one of the last tables on the patio for brunch. My service attendants greeted me promptly and made suggestions about tasty things on the menu. I didn't want to over do it, but I ordered one of their specialty seafood tacos that was very spicy and a side order of what was called a "mixed bag." The garlic aioli was on point and a delicious alternative to the standard ketchup one normally eats with fried potatoes. I opted for a craft lager beer called a smickel pickel or something or other. It was so good that I ordered a second. Most things on the menu were low to moderately priced, with nothing being too far out of reach for the average person on a low to moderate budget. My food and beverage arrived quickly and was served fresh. There was teamwork amongst the staff that was evident with bartenders running drinks and hostesses helping to clear dishes. The effect and ambience indicated a healthy ecosystem of restaurant personnel entertaining dining guests for the hour. Overall, for my first dining experience of 2020, Simmzy's lives up to the hype I have been walking past for 7 months now. I will be back to try...
Read moreI had moved down the street, hadn't unpacked anything so I literally ate there 8 times in about 2 weeks. 95% of the time it was the same host....EVERY time he asked me my name....definitely not very personable, and i never saw him smile, not once....not a huge deal, but, interesting....
i did order the same thing 5 out of the 8times. Everytime something was different about the food. The first time I ordered the grilled caesar, I got a few 'grill' marks which were super tasty so next time I asked for extra grill time and ended up with not one piece of lettuce making it to the fire, in fact it was super cold, as if pulled straight from the fridge. I always paid for the seared ahi on top-that is tasty, but first time i asked if there was like a nice thick sesame 'rub' on it, he said 'yes', but every time it only had a few sesame seeds, not even enough to qualify possibly being rolled in them before searing....
Another time I got the $20 burger, asked for extra sauce, walked home and had to walk all the way back because there wasn't any sauce at all...
For me the food is really decent for the quantity/quality/price but, something was ALWAYS missing from EVERY single order...every single one.... and if I asked for one thing, I got the exact opposite....so, I think I'll only go there if there's no other options because I know something will be messed up,...
Read moreSimmzy's has all open-air seating so it's a perfect venue when the weather is nice. It's not quite on the water but you can certainly walk a few blocks over and be right on the beach. I actually ended up here after taking my dog to Rosie's Dog Beach. They don't allow dogs inside but you can request one of the side seatings and have your dog next to you on the other side of the railings.
The best part about Simmzy's is that they have no corkage fee! You can bring as many bottles of wine as you'd like at no additional charge. They also have a full bar.
Our waitress was super nice and sweet. She even offered water for my little dog. The food did take a long time to come out though.
I tried the brussel sprouts, eggs benedict pizza, and their blue cheese fries. I can't say that I'm a complete fan of their food because I felt that everything tasted fairly average. The best part of my meal was the cinnamon apple filled donut. It is seriously the best donut I've ever had. The donut was a thin crispy shell filled with lots and lots of cinnamon apples. It's all topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. I could eat like a hundred of those.
Parking is a pain on the street adjacent to the restaurant. I would recommend parking by the beach or looking further into the...
