You had me at the giant red Sumo wrestler butt!!!!!

So good to have a great sushi restaurant here! 4 stars is as high as I can go for a casual restaurant. I leave 5 for fine dining and as lovely as this place is, it's still casual. Which is PERFECT! Thank you to our waitress, Stephanie, (easy name to remember) as our service was very attentive and warm. All the staff treated us as if we were their table, how to you train that?! Nice job!!

I loved that we were greeted with steamed towels when we sat. It has been at least 20 years since I've gotten that?! Okay, maybe not THAT long, but it kinda feels like it! It was a lovely touch and really put a smile on my face (and a very cockeyed look on the 14 year old boy's face).

We had the miso soup, ok, my hubby had that. He said it was really Good, but I didn't taste it because I have a cold. 😩

Mushroom soup(amazing, highly recommend ) This stuff was addicting, no spoon needed! I need these bowls in my life now!

Yellowtail jalapeno appetizer, this is a dish I get at a lot of sushi restaurants and this could compete with any of them. We all had a time getting the pieces out of the dish, however, we were REALLY hungry, so it could have just been us scavenging too fast.

Sashimi salad - This WILL become a staple of my diet. (I think it may hold some kind of superpower for me.)

Broncos roll, this is a fun one, I'm not usual for the cooked sushi but this was really delectable. It also had a nice pop with the soy and wasabi. I always try my sushi without it first...sometimes it can be overpowering and I hate missing out on all the flavors. Just a little with this roll and it really seemed to compmement. I'm digressing...and drooling!

Out of control roll, this was a little more tame than we expected it to be. It had some micro greens and the fish was mild and soft to the pallet. It was delicious and the fish is fresh. It just had a lot more pop with some wasabi and soy sauce.

Some Toro and Hamachi Sashimi with a Junmai Gingo Sake, all outstanding.

Philadelphia and Dragon rolls. I didn't eat these, they were for the 14 year old giant boy that lives with us and eats enough to feed an army! He devoured them, we didn't ever really get a response, so, that means they were good.(He has no problem complaining) Did I mention? We were REALLY hungry!!!

We didn't have time to stay for the fruit ninja roll, but I may go back for it....

TOMORROW!

Oh, were definitely going back...nice...

Came in to eat with a friend this evening and we had an extremely pushy, unwelcoming server who would not leave us alone. He came back every 5 minutes to harass us and made us feel guilty about sitting there and talking and we always tried to have a drink or food in front of us because I was a server for 7 years but geez that was terrible. I’ve never made a table feel that way. Management probably should’ve been notified because I got the feeling he was new and maybe someone told him the only way you make money is by turning your tables, but quality over quantity is a very real concept too. Harassing your tables is going to lose you money just as much, if not more, than not getting all the tables under the sun. The food was good per usual but we won’t be back. I’d like to say his name was Jack or Josh. Something with a J and he was young. Honestly the most annoying server I’ve ever had. Maybe put him as an expo on the line? Somewhere he can’t bother customers. His knack for customer service is extremely lacking and I daresay nonexistent.

And in response to the owner’s comment: He was pushy from the moment we arrived. It added anxiety to the whole meal and we spent more than we wanted to just to appease him. We will probably return as I accept your apology, but just realize the harassment was from beginning to end, and probably caused us to stay even longer because I hadn’t seen this friend in months and we spent a good amount of time talking about his awful service so we had to make up for time lost to try and say all we wanted to say. The point is, yes there are times when tables overstay their welcome, but as a server I was NEVER allowed to make them feel that way. That’s not good customer service. We spent a good amount of money and didn’t intend to be there too long but again you’re in the hospitality industry so sometimes it happens. And that doesn’t explain why he was pushy from the beginning. Thank you for your response. Jack was not accommodating and added pressure and an unwelcome feeling to the...

This was our first visit and once through the double door entry, the inside looks nothing like what you expect from the outside. It is a dark and inviting feel with a very cool sushi bar and lots of live shell fish in tanks. There is a small bar area with a TV but it is not at all bothersome to the other dining areas.

Food: 5-Star fish and 5-star presentation. For appys we had the avocado salad and edamame, both excellent. We ate the "Hot Girl" roll, tuna sashimi and yellow tail sushi. All were the highest quality. We had a bottle of Starborough SB wine for $28, just over twice retail so a fair price.

Service: 5-Star. Our servers were prompt, got the order right the first time, brought our appys quick, severed the wine wine in a cooling sleeve. No rush but cleaned the used dishes quickly and with no fuss. Offered additional food, just did everything right.

We had a reservation but it was not needed. Once this place gets some press, you will need reservations.

All in $80 (including $28 for wine). Fair price and a great value for sushi.

We will return and recommend without reservation. 2/Nov/2018 We returned.

The food and atmosphere is on-par or better than most sushi places in which I have eaten. There are a few that are better (none in Longmont) but they are also twice the price.

The seating is comfortable and not super tight as in many sushi bars. The fish is just plain great, not much else to say. We each had a drink (beer or wine for us but they have a full bar), we have two appetizers between the three of us and the Sushi Love Boat for Two (seen in the picture below). Total bill was just short of $100 but we had a 15% off coupon so including tax and a $20 cash tip got out for about $113. A bargain for premium sushi. Recommended without any reservation but reservations are...

I would have given this a 5. Only reason it is 4 is because the ramen was not good and could use minor improvements, other than that, this place is excellent!! Appetizers: Seaweed salad Jalapeño bomb Main dishes: Steak Teriyaki Box (rare w/fried rice upgrade) Spice Kimchi Ramen First came the miso soup & salad, both were good, but both could use small flavor adjustments, the salad needed a little bit more flavor & was a little watery. Soup was great I loved the appearance and consistency, looked amazing, just needing a little more flavor. For the seaweed salad a bit fishy, other than that great, I loved the ratio of seaweed to cucumber and the way the cucumber was cut made this dish taste better! MY FAVORITE the jalapeño bomb!! This was amazing!! I want more!! Definitely 100% recommend!! For the main dishes: the lunch special box was great! Good flavors, steak cooked amazing, a little sweet, not too too sweet, I would recommend using more natural sweeteners for this. Fried rice was good, could use small improvements as well. The seaweed in California roll was a bit too fishy for me, I did pull it apart & eat the middles. I did really like the consistency and how everything was cut inside. Great gob! Ordered a side of spicy mayo, it was good! Yum yum was good as well, tasted homemade. Ramen: I did not like this dish. There was way too much stuff going on at the top and each bite was chewy, flavors were not good, tasted like spiced water. Canned corn. Just didn’t taste fresh at all. I would recommend re doing the ramen recipes! The appearance was great!! Looked amazing, taste needs improved I would not recommend! I don’t like going to the same restaurant twice, but I will definitely be back for more jalapeño bombs! Omg 🤩

Note: My experiences are all from ordering via DoorDash. And sadly, the DoorDash menu sometimes removes things that are on Sumo's website menu (steamed rice as an extra side, for example). From a food perspective, it isn't too bad taste-wise. The sushi has been pretty good. Granted I haven't tried it all, but what I have tried has been quite tasty. The gyoza with dipping sauce was quite good. Likewise the shumai. The salad they serve with entrees are fine. Where I have a problem is Sumo's use of the term "tempura". Twice, I've ordered the Chicken Tempura Combo, which is supposed to come with tempura chicken and tempura vegetables. As seen in the attached pictures from my last order, the tempura vegetables were fine. However, the tempura chicken seemed to use panko breading instead of tempura batter. Likewise, the Soft Shell Crab Tempura also seemingly used panko rather than tempura batter. Don't get me wrong--I like panko breading. However, when I order tempura, I expect proper tempura, not panko. Further, I don't understand why the vegetables had proper tempura batter, but the meats did not. Having eaten a ton of tempura in my life, there's a certain texture/flavor that comes from proper tempura. The vegetables had it. The meats had the texture of panko.
