My wife and I were in town for a few days, working with a nearby theater fest. We tried The Humanist because it was the only nearby coffee place we could find open late enough for an afternoon pick-me-up, and I’m so glad we did! Aside from the convenience of being open later, the shop is super cute and inviting, and full of a wide variety of interesting items and treats. We tried the regular cold brew coffees, which were perfection, and while the assorted pastries looked huge and mouthwatering we were more than content enjoying their simple gluten free donuts. Best of all though, the staff couldn’t have been nicer! It became a regular stop on our visit and the folks behind the counter remembered us with the most welcoming demeanors every time. On my last visit I gave their iced Dirty Chai Latte a try and was just as happy with that as the cold brews! The Humanist is easy to miss, just off the main Melrose drag, but it’s absolutely worth checking out and I can’t wait to visit again the next time we’re in town. Read moreMini cafe at Melrose that attracted me with the combo of matcha and mochi they offered. The place was kinda petite so limited seats available and could accommodate pretty small groups of 2-4.
They did offer things beyond matcha and mochi, mostly focusing on organic / clean-eating options, such as energy balls, gluten-free pastries, etc. Their mochi was mascarpone-based so it would be frozen when served and you might have to wait 15-20 mins to enjoy it best. I picked pistachio raspberry and loved it a ton! The snow skin was thin and chewy, the filling was so generous with bold pistachio flavor and nicely refreshing raspberry layer.
As they're well-known for matcha, I tried their Dirty Matcha Latte, which was matcha with 2 shots of espresso, and it was great as you could tell the matcha was great quality one with that bold umami flavor, well-balanced with bold coffee taste. You could even opt for this to be sweetened or...
Read moreThis place was a perfect find! I was heading to my dance class but needed to finish up some work on my laptop before. I got to Starbucks and they didn’t have an outlet so i left and just typed coffee shop and let Google maps do its thing. It led me to this amazing place - i should have come here initially! The most warm welcome, friendly staff, quiet, top notch hospitality, and so many delicious foods and drinks ! And the pastries are SO YUMMY!
I went back and will always go back whenever I’m around this area.
Keep doing what you’re doing - talented owners and passionate about serving their customers. You made my day and i hope i can keep supporting you.
