Corner Bakery food is yummy! I always get the Carbonara and the soups are pretty good is well. But this review isn't about the food, but more about the excellent service that I experienced at this location.
As a parent of a child with severe food allergies, it is sometimes hard to find restaurants that can be accommodating. Now I understand that not all restaurants can be accommodating to food allergies, so by accommodating, I mean actually making an effort to show me that you actually care about what I am asking you in regards to the ingredients in the food. There have been countless times where I ask employees about whether a particular allergen is in an item and they say to me "I think so". When you are dealing with a potential trip to the emergency room or a shot of an epi-pen for your child, I think you can see the problem with such a vague answer.
But when my family and I went to this location last night, we were very pleased with our cashier, Danny. She was very, very nice and when my wife was explaining to her my son's allergies, she was very attentive. She wasn't sure off the top of her head if the allergens were in the item we were asking about. But instead of playing dumb or simply saying "I think so", she handled it with professionalism and whipped out a book behind the counter that had the allergens list. She looked at it and said that my son should be fine, but then gave us the book so that we can double check.
While we were checking the book, a very impatient lady came in and saw that we were still ordering and there was only one register open. The lady looks at Danny and says "Is there no other register open?" with kind of an attitude. Danny just smiles at her and says "I'll be right with you, mam". She didn't try to rush us and was very patient while we were looking over this allergen list, which I thought was very nice of her. So we ordered my son the Mac and Cheese and went on our way. But the service didn't stop there.
As we were walking away, I heard Danny mention to her cooks that our order contained an allergy sensitivity. She told her cooks to change their gloves and make sure nothing else comes in contact with my son's food. I thought that was a really great attention to detail. Not only that, but about 5-10 minutes after we got our food, Danny came over again to check in on us to make sure everything was okay. The thoughtfulness and genuine care that she had for us was very impressive.
So Danny, if you are reading this, THANK YOU. You are the type of person that I wish was at every restaurant and you blew us away with your professionalism and attention to detail. And management if you are reading this, give her a raise, gift card, or a paid day off. She truly...
Read moreJanuary 2024, it’s been a minute but wanted to update. Almost always order online for home delivery from Northridge location. I just want to share that the food is outstanding & consistently fresh overall considering how much we have ordered over the last 3 years. There have been a couple occasions in which I felt the chicken in the pasta & salad were not the freshest, but lately it’s been on point & the portions are more than reasonable. Today picked up the vegetarian caprese sandwich, outstandingly delicious & a side salad also fresh & delish. Also ordered carbanara pasta w/ blue cheese. Delicious but this time a bit too much blue cheese. Great fresh food & food always arrives warm. Including some pics from this order. Thanks to the cooks, even when I go in for pick up they’re busy & doing it right.
Pick up online lunch order yesterday oct. 25th 2021. Husband & I moved to the area a year or so ago & it’s our first experience at the Northridge location. We both ordered the two lunch combo. Overall a good experience and are going back to do lunch again today. Food was fresh to order & was still warm when we got home. Also note was a very short wait food was ready quick. My husband did the tomato basil soup with a half sandwich. He described the soup as delicious a little spicy and the sandwich tasty but a little bit small. I’m not sure what side he ordered, but overall he was satisfied. I ordered the chicken noodle soup & pesto cavatappi pasta w/ grilled chicken & a side of garlic bread. Overall I was happy with the meal. Thought it was a good solid portion and made a great warm lunch on a cool fall day. My reason for 4 stars is the lack of chicken in the pasta it was almost nonexistent and absolutely does not look like the menu picture with slices of chicken. Not where’s the beef? ,but baby where’s the chicken? Also could have had more pesto flavor it basically is just a creamy pasta, not bad still yummy but not to expectation based of menu description & picture. Soup is delicious & satisfying, my side of garlic bread was also sadly flat not crispy and lacking garlic flavor but still good & not stale. Overall All very fresh food and not too pricey. I think we’d spend the same or more at any fast food drive through but here you get fresher healthier made to order food. My next lunch order is on its way & I’m ordering the exact same thing! I’m curious of their consistency, I’m hoping for visible chicken slices in my pasta today, fingers crossed! pictures are from second order oct. 26th 2021 so far so great! Update more chicken today & crispier more garlicky bread still no pesto flavor but still yum. Husband loved his breakfast sandwich...
Read moreI was very disappointed with my experience at the Corner Bakery Cafe in Northridge. So I order from the "Choose Any Two" menu. When I get to the restaurant to pick up my order I notice there is no garlic bread which was included when I had ordered the same dish at other Corner Bakery's. I ask the woman at the register about it and she tells me garlic bread does not come with the pasta dish the you are ordering from the "Choose Any Two" menu. I tell her that when I asked over the phone before placing my order they said it would be a full order of pasta which I had assumed came with the traditional side of garlic toast.
I asked if she could ask her manager if, since I had them leave out the meatballs that normally comes with this dish, if I could substitute the meatballs for a side of garlic toast? When the gal returned she told me that the manager, Jada was the managers name so as not to confuse her with any of the other managers there, she told her no I could not do that.
Mind you this is a small piece of garlic bread that usually comes with this dish no bigger than the size of my hand. I stand 5'6'' with average size hands so we are not talking about a very big portion of garlic toast.
I have worked in restaurants for over 20 years and I could not believe this manager refused to make this small accommodation. The piece of garlic bread could not have cost the company more than 10 cents and I'm sure the meatballs I had them leave out cost more than that.
On top of that when I got home I discovered my order of pasta looked like only half an order and hardly had any pasta sauce on it so I had to go back out to the store to get some more pasta sauce to put on my pasta dish. I don't think this is a very effective way for the manager to win and keep customers. I guess this particular manager doesn’t...
