Any who already know DeFranko's know that within its unassuming and humble storefront there can be found some of the highest quality of both sub and staff. To the uninitiated, Defranko's is a hidden gem of an establishment which specializes in making a variety of submarine sandwiches, all of which are great quality and flavor. It is the type of place where you could easily order anything on the menu and be both impressed and satisfied (though I WILL recommend the Hot Turkey, the Pepper Steak, and the Pastrami, all 3 of which I lovely refer to as "The Trifecta of Greatness"). You may not be used to little old-fashioned business throwbacks like paying extra to add cheese (do it!) or them basically doing their chopped veggies as an 'all in' affair (also do it!). But stepping outside of these norms is well worth it as you are treated to what may easily be the best sandwiches in the San Fernando Valley, and the staff is all the happier to include you in this little secret restaurant shared by an enthusiastic patronage. Their small location can cause the place appear mobbed at times; but fear not adventurer, their staff can really sling fast when they need to and without dropping in quality at all. What DeFranko's is, is really a place eager to showcase that being a "plane and simple" submarine joint, doesn't actually involve being all that "plane," as their commitment to taste, quality, and overall experience makes them nothing short of excellent. Finally, should you believe that my claim of them being the best sandwiches in the valley to be overexaggeration or puffery, I invite you go to Defranko's and test the validity that claim yourself. I suspect, you'll have...
Read moreGreat sandwiches. I've had the privilege to eat here since 1985. I am not guilty, to say that this is by far the best submarine sandwiches in the world. First of all let's start off by the fact that this place is owned privately. And it's not a franchise. For more than 30 years this place has been here as far as I can remember at least. I'm pretty sure he's been here a lot longer than that. Now, the sandwiches are to die for. I especially love the pastrami yes yes. Which basically means pastrami with cheese and mustard. In the way they cut up the onion the Tomato the pickle and the pepper sprinkled on top. And the oil they use, oh my goodness is like submarine sandwich Paradise. But they also have tuna, roast beef, turkey breast. Not to mention the salads they serve. Those are very delicious. Keep in mind, that everything is made from scratch. Everything is fresh as can be. I definitely recommend for anyone visiting the Los Angeles area to take your time and come by and try out this superbly served sandwiches. Thank you so much for being in business for so many years. Your public simply adores you. I really do hope that you're here for many generations to come. God bless you, and God bless...
