En Sushi — Restaurant in Los Angeles

There are soooo many sushi restaurants in Santa Monica, we didn’t know where to go, contacted local friend for a recommendation and here we were. Absolutely amazing atmosphere and food although it can look mediocre from outside of the restaurant, once you are inside you are welcomed by high ceiling with modern interior. What stands out is that this restaurant offers completely separated bar for any alcohol drinks aside from regular sushi bar offers from simple draft beer to hard liquor. But most importantly, the foods were good. My favorite was blue fin tuna that was fresh and delicious. All staffs were kind and attentive. I have heard from my friend that the owner of this restaurant has a long experience in making sushi so that gave me an assurance that their standard of operation and the quality of sushi was high. HORRIBLE service. I made a reservation online for a party of 5, arrived a few minutes early to no available tables. After waiting 10-15 minutes we were seated upstairs. After waiting 15+ minutes, I had to walk downstairs to get a server to take our order. Once we got our food, we were missing 2 rolls and after we finished eating what they did serve us, I had to go downstairs again to check on the status of our missing rolls. They arrived another 5-10 mins later. After finishing those rolls, no one checked on us for another 15+ plus and one again, had to go downstairs to get the server to bring us a check, which they automatically charged a tip that they did not deserve. Either they automatically charge tips for parties 5, or they counted a 1-year old as a 6th person.

I won't be coming back here again, especially after no apology of mentioning the servers NEVER checked up if we wanted more food, drinks, asked how the food was or even bring...

First off let me say the food was delicious and I would definitely recommend this place based solely on that. I ordered the gingered ribeye entree. Having said that the service could definitely improve. Before ordering I asked for clarification regarding a menu item. When the food was brought out ( by a different waiter) it was not as had been discussed with the first. No big deal, except they made it one, by bringing me a copy of the menu ( which caused confusion for me in the first place) and attempting to "prove me wrong". All of this should have been avoided by my asking the question but was not. After that we never saw our original waiter again and had to pull a random waitress 3 times to refill water and a different one...
