Wow, I've never been to a place quite like this. This is a Korean-Chinese skewer restaurant. My husband wanted to try this place out after we watched a video. We decided to go with ordering the lamb kebab, beef kebab, and the beef tendon kebab. As we sat down, we were offered some banchan choices. There were nuts, kimchi, salad, pickled radish, and bean sprouts. The lamb and beef kebab had the same seasoning, however, the beef tendon did not. The other two was more of a drier seasoning that tasted more like herbs or curry. I preferred the beef tendon marinade to the others so much that I ended up dipping the other meat kebabs into the marinade. We also ordered the eggplant and sauteed ong choy dish on the side. Both were very delicious. There were three sauces available to use as a dip. One was a dry spice seasoning, sweet red seasoning, and a sweet soy seasoning with red chilies. I liked the dry spice and the sweet soy. Because we were consuming so many meats, I really wanted to try their cold noodles. It helps to cleanse the palate. And honestly, it was one of the best, but different cold noodlers I've ever had. It had an apple slice. It was so refreshing. The brisket and cucumber slices were great! Definitely enjoyed it. We were lucky enough to snag free street parking, however, there is valet parking available as well for $3. This place is best for parties of 2-4 - not big parties. Pretty spacious, clean, and located on the second floor. Definitely...
Read moreBest Chinese spot near Koreatown by far (it's actually a Korean/Chinese place and they can speak both mandarin and Korean). Food-wise it's essentially Chinese but they do start you off with some Korean style banchan appetizers.
This is my favorite lamb skewer place in LA. Better than Feng Mao imo. I think the other nonskewer options are also better here. I eat here once or twice per month and I always get the water spinach (aka ong choy/Kong xin Cai) and the sauerkraut soup in addition to the lamb and squid skewers. Other dishes I've gotten that I've liked a lot are the sweet and sour fried pork dish, shredded pork and cilantro (mildly spicy) , and the assorted mushroom dish. One thing I wouldn't go for here is the Mala tang..it's meh and there are much better places for Mala tang in ktown. I haven't tried most of their dishes since I always get the same stuff so, as with any restaurant, ymmv.
I never write reviews but this is one of my favorite restaurants in LA and I think it deserves more than 4.0/5 on Google reviews. Maybe it can be slightly on the expensive side? I'm guessing it's also probably easy to not know what to order and end up with a disappointing meal. Anyways, I'm writing this review because I can't have this place closing down on me... there very few good Chinese food options near ktown and I'm too lazy to drive an hr...
Read moreomg I meant to write this review a couple months ago but our experience here was so wonderful , i had to come back and say something. The night we went, I was feeling quite sad and nothing sounded good from our usual spots, so we decided half heartedly to try something new. Turned out to be the BEST decision. The service was amazing , as was the atmosphere . We were sat in our own little pink wooden ? Room? More like a cubicle but much larger . It was very cute and made the experience feel very special. Once it’s busy I’m sure it would be a little harder to sit there though.
Most importantly, the food was scrumptious. we got beef tendon and lamb skewers with the traditional eggplant at the server’s recommendation. All were so delicious. The spice blend and sauces were perfect for the meat that cooked right in front of us , rotating on top of a coal fire.
I didn’t write the review initially (i started a draft while sitting n the restaurant that night) because i wanted it to be better written and as thorough as possible but eventually gave up. However months later I’m still thinking about it and needed to quickly type out this kinda crazy review bc fei Xiang gong was GREAT and deserves more business . It wasn’t too busy on a Saturday night but maybe it was just the rain .
Bottom line , check it out ! You...
