It's really hard to give Gaby's a 3 star rating. The rating is entirely for the food. It would have had 5 stars if it weren't for the service. And, if I were rating on service alone it would slip down to two stars.
The food is that great that it gets 3 anyway.
Food: There are so many choices for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians that it makes this place a great place to go with all of your friends. The food is fresh, the rice is amazing, and I cannot get enough of the hummus or the garlic spread (not sure of it's official name, it's white, it's pungent, and it's the best!) I've had both their chicken and beef kabobs and they are also good and their falafel is really good too.
Service: ugggh. On a good day the service is slow. On a bad day the service is wretched in terms of slowness. On a really bad day the manager yells at your table because there are too many of you and it's YOUR fault that they can't get your food to you.
Good day service example: You sit down, it takes 5 mins for someone to come and get your drink order, it then takes another 5 -10 minutes to get your bread and drinks and eventually the food comes. It's so delicious you don't really care too much.
Bad day service example: you sit down and it takes 45 minutes to get your drinks and 1.5 hours to get your final check.
Really bad day service: you go with a big group of co-workers and an admin has called in advance to get reservations. It takes 15 minutes to get menus. When food finally comes out with a few people getting their plates, and then 5 mins later a few more, 5 mins later a few more, and finally people are still sitting w/out food and others have completely finished you question the manger? assistant manager? about the issues with service. The person gets angry with you and explains that you never should have been served from the menu and for parties this big you only get catering! Then, why didn't you give us a catering menu and explain that when we sat down. Bottom line is -- there was some very very uncomfortable almost yelling from one of the management to one of our co-workers. On our side the co-worker just wanted some acknowledgement of the poor service. On the restaurant side they just wanted to tell us how horrible we were and how we didn't deserve any better because their were too many people to serve.
I've never gone back to the restaurant since then. I am very happy, however, when someone from work decides to cater a lunch and uses Gaby's so I can eat it :) It's a shame that i feel so uncomfortable going to the restaurant :( I've been told that other...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRecently had a very unpleasant experience. Venice location, I would grade C+ on cleanliness and overall aesthetic. Not dirty at all but not one of the nicest Mediterranean spots. Customer service is sub par. Arrived early evening. 6:10pm. Slow, rather empty place. Ordered lemonade. Was brought pink lemonade instead without asking for my substitute. (Found that odd. She just brought it back like..HERE!) Food didn't arrive until 6:50p. I ordered dine-in, I suspect food was originally brought out in "to-go" bags. Waitress realized her mistake, (I saw her) then she doubled back and switched food into regular plates. I complained on the lateness and they had to switch back to "to-go" containers. Didn't leave restaurant until 7pm. Made me late for 7pm appointment. Waitress said typical wait time is 15mins. We waited 40mins. So either my experience is a bad day or maybe it's standard. French fries were SOGGY. thumbs down. Salad is Kroger quality mixed greens. hummus is also Kroger quality. The meat is basic quality. The waitress excuse was they had a big call-in order. My question is, since when did the call-in come before the in-person customer? Who knows. I paid $40 for 3 plates. I won't be back ever again. I can get same quality on Uber Eats or GrubHub. Major...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe meal i ordered, chicken kabob plate, comes with one piece of pita, but I ordered a plate, a side of hummus, and a side salad. This all after having a phone convo with the people over at Gaby. I also asked if they would give me extra garlic sauce and that I would pay for it, they said no problem, but they just fixed this by not giving me any garlic sauce on my plate, rather putting it on the side in a container.
And you would think you need a fork for your meal right? Maybe a few napkins? NOT AT GABY'S! The last 3 times I have ordered from them I have not received any eating utensils with my food. I usually have some lying around, but the point is: if it's an Ubereats meal, shouldn't that be double checked seeing as though the person ordering won't be able to check it themselves? After ordering through ubereats 4 or 5 times, I decided to call in to the manager and express my displeasure with the lack of customer service. The manager offered a free hummus on my next order. yay. Customer service, pretty bad, and management, not much better. All i wanted was my damn pita bread lady šš I'll be back because the food is delicious! And a healthier option, but if there was something just as healthy closer, that delivered, Gaby's...
