Old Johnny’s was better. The old Johnny’s was a staple in the Highland Park community for many years. A place where local people used to go to have fun. Bartenders were the best in the neighborhood as for they were expert mixologists, but cocktails were not $15. This is just another one of many, “cookie cutter”, standard issue hipster hangout place. Nothing special. Atmosphere felt like if I was in an Applebees restaurant, only difference were the eye gouging cocktail prices and the hi-fi quality music. Since the new owners took over, it’s a different story. The new staff are friendly, but the personal touch is gone. This place has a Japanese cocktail bar aesthetic to it, heavy wood paneling, well made drinks, Japanese whiskeys. Keen and detail oriented eyes oversaw it's restructure....
I like the ambiance here, the drinks are reasonably priced for LA and kudos to the barkeeps for the evening, a woman with the best hips and a man with a chiseled jaw and a smirk slung well-made drinks....
