We visited Joyce's Coffee Shop on January 30th, after some of the Covid restrictions on restaurants were once again lifted. I wanted to try a local family-owned cafe that I'd never been to. We were very pleasantly surprised with Joyce's!
We arrived to a comfortable patio atmosphere for a late breakfast, and I was pleased to see that Covid precautions were being closely adhered to. The serving staff was polite and knowledgeable even despite how busy they were with almost all of their patio tables full, and several parties waiting for take-out orders.
My partner and I ordered coffee and the Eggs Benedict. Surprisingly, the brewed coffee was quite good and new cup-fulls were brought to us regularly. The breakfast entrees were served without an unusual wait and piping hot. I asked that my hash browns be extra crispy, and that turkey sausage be substituted for the pork sausage. Both requests were accommodated. Our eggs broke open easily, spilling the yellow goodness all over the plate, and the star of the show, the hollandaise sauce, was exceptional. The taste was well-balanced, and despite the typical heaviness of this mother sauce, Joyce's hollandaise was unusually light. Delightful!
Before we left, the server offered us pie. Pie for breakfast?? Why not! It seems that Joyce's pies are homemade each day by the owner herself, and we were offered a choice of 4 or 5 different options. I ordered the blueberry pie, while my partner ordered the mixed berry pie. As full as we were at that point, however, we decided to just take the pies home and have them after dinner. If you visit Joyce's - don't skip the pie! The crusts were light and flaky and not overburdened with sugar. Rather, the baker decided to allow the fruit to speak for itself (which is exactly how it should be, in my opinion!)
Joyce's is a highly recommended breakfast/lunch cafe in the Northridge area. We will definitely be returning for another home cooked brunch, and that...

Walked in and was immediately greeted by the new owner of the coffee shop. The place was full of people, from couples to families, there were more staff since I last came here. The new owner was nice to inform me of a couple changes to the menu, such as fresh-made pancakes and waffles and hand-cut hash-browns.
I ordered the Ranch Style Breakfast (with Sausage) and everything was well-made, pancakes were great and the egg was cooked to my liking. The staff checks up on your table, even more than before, making sure you're in a family-friendly environment.
Like before, I highly recommend coming here, plenty of choices, friendly staff, casual and safe environment, and you could be here for a quick bite or just to relax.
First experience:
Truly wonderful experience, they were very nice and thoughtful. I walked in (door on the right of the Coffee Arrow Sign, not the left) and sat down, I was immediately greeted and my order began.
I received my coffee within the minute, with no rush to order. I got Two Eggs with Hash Browns and Salsa (comes with Toast but I opted for more Hash Browns), just like Edwin's photo on here, they were worried the salsa would be spicy and put it on the side just in case. They came over frequently to check if everything was okay and if I needed a refill on my coffee.
The menu items are inexpensive and well-portioned, although the coffee was a bit weak, service was friendly, place was clean and constantly kept clean. The environment wasn't loud nor quiet, some casual conversations around the shop with a bit of the kitchen's cooking protruding in. While it's not modern looking like Denny's and other big name diners, it gives you a safe feeling and that you're welcomed.
I highly recommending going and I would come back any...
Read moreI've lived in the valley practically my whole life (my family moved here in '73). I've driven by 50 million times and have only notice it lately, but I never stop in. Until today. Apparently, "Joyce" opened up this diner in 1955. It was hers until Walter & Michelle took it over some number of years ago. I got this from Michelle herself as she was who served me. I told her how I lived here always but never came in before now. She says she hears that every day.
Alright first off, this place really is a true throwback to the 50's. Not because it's decorated to be that. More because that's when it was decorated and it doesn't seem like anyone's done much to change it, though I will say it's extraordinarily well preserved. It was explained that Walter is from Guatemala and he grows his own coffee beans (didn't know you can do that in SoCal?). Very good coffee. in fact the scent of it kinda hits ya (in a good way) as soon as you walk through the door.
I ordered simple breakfast, bacon and eggs, but I threw them curve ball and asked for my eggs basted. So few places seem to get that quite right. But Walter came through like a master. Michelle also brought me a comped plate of pancakes because they're Walters specialty. And they were goooooooood... So light & fluffy. If pancakes are your thing, these are better than DuPar's....
Looking forward to going back soon and trying something from their...
