While visiting Hollywood I was on the search for a coffee shop that offered different breakfast items besides the basic avocado toast, breakfast burrito or granola. I stopped in before heading out of town since it's not too far from the 101; plus they have a small parking lot. Gracias a diós that I am fluent in Spanish. Both of the employees greeted everyone in Spanish and appeared to not know much English. They have a large selection of fresh Mexican pastries and pan, plus some delicious looking cakes for a special occasion. For seating, there were tables and chairs inside and a couple out front.
I first ordered the highly rated Iced Dulce de Leche Latte. As expected, the concentrate has dairy. I still had asked the employee if it could be made with oat milk, and he said it was not possible. When I received my drink it was a layer of the dulce de leche concentrate with 2/3rds of the cup with low-fat milk...it could have easily been subbed with oat milk (-1 star). Nonetheless, the drink still had a nicely bold coffee flavor with a hint of sweetness, yet not too overwhelming.
As my breakfast, I went with a Mollete: half a bolillo with seasoned refried beans and cheese. This was the perfect size, had a little kick in the beans, and was something different than what I usually get for breakfast. The price was also super reasonable.
The multi-colored conchas that come in a box of a dozen catch my eye. I couldn't leave without purchasing it for my family to enjoy. They were delicious, still soft and had plenty of flavor the following morning for breakfast.
All in all, I...
Read moreI wasn’t sure about having pan dulce and coffee here because it’s hard to find a place that has good pan dulce that is authentic. This place has some really good pan dulce though! I was really impressed by the freshness and softness of the bread. The conchas were pillowy and delicious. I also had the churro croissant and it was soooo good! The cinnamon on the croissant isn’t powdered cinnamon which really enhances the flavor. It was also pillowy soft unlike some of the other coffee stands that have hard croissants that are not fresh. The coffee was good too! I had the tres leches coffee and it was perfect. I was really pleased to have visited this spot. If I’m ever in the area again I’ll be sure to stop again. Staff were friendly despite the reviews that...
Read moreWent here for a study session with my boyfriend. The inside has a homey feel to it - clean, bright and definitely does not look like how you'll expect a cafe in the area to look like. The shelves of pastries and cakes are all so inviting and it's just difficult to decide what to order.
In the end, we got a Cafe Del Carmen, a Cafe San Cristobal the torta sandwich sampler, and a caramel-filled pastry. Really really enjoyed my Del Carmen. I will go back to this place even just for that. I didn't enjoy the San Cristobal as much but it made me appreciate Mexican chocolate more. As for the sandwich sampler, nothing special with all 5 sandwiches. A bit disappointed actually... The caramel pastry saved the day though. It's something I'd love to have when I'm...
