The apartment/room inside was very nice, spacious, modern and well appointment, and it was good to have the gyms and lounge facility. The whole self check in side of things is good if it all works but when it doesn’t it makes things difficult, especially with delayed responses from any Kasa staff, and never able to reach anyone on the phone, only eventually on the chat but that was delayed and very frustrating when access codes weren’t working and I was trying to retrieve my luggage before heading to the airport.
The initial check in process is through an online platform which you will need mobile data for, as to submit ID copied and facial recognitions scanning. Then you get codes to access the main building, and then further information on check in time to get into your room. The luggage storage is quite minimal, they are lockers in the lounge room that likely won’t fit standard large suitcases and on the day I arrived were all quickly filled up. I had contacted in advance about luggage storage, but found a bunch of other people when I arrived and myself quite confused about options when these were full and we could not reach anyone by phone or the chat platforms to answer our queries. I also found people checking out were having trouble accessing the building who had checked out and were coming back to get their luggage as their codes were no longer working.
As a result I made the effort before checking out to contact the customer service the day before checking out to query my access to the building in the evening to pick up my luggage. They gave me a new standard day code to use. But I think there should be more information and comms on this, as I knew to ask only because of that I saw other guests going through.
However when I came back in the late afternoon to collect my luggage the code I was given was not working which was very frustrating. Lucky was able to access the building as people were leaving and main doors were open, and then the empty staff room office was open, after waiting around for 20+ minutes I got desperate and went to look in the staff office for any keys and found a housekeeping code I could use on the whiteboard that worked for me to go and get my bags. This was a very frustrating experience especially as I had gone to the effort to enquire the day before, and worry about this as an ongoing experience for guests.
This is one of those scenarios where if these self service/limited staff services work you’re fine and aren’t storing luggage, you’re likely okay, but then when you actually need a person to talk to or are having issues you’re very stuck. The staff I did witness in person and in the chat were friendly, but the never knowing when I could actually find a person and response time then was very frustrating, and feeling like my issues were brushed off wasn’t a great experience. This was a shame because my stay in the apartment in the main time was good. It was really this check in/out process.
The central Hollywood location is on the main Sunset Blvd strip, good location to go in different directions around LA e.g more east side, downtime, or up to Griffith Observatory, or then more West. However it’s not really an area where you would hang out or spend time in the surroundings, my driver from the airport warned me not be out late in the surrounding area.
I also didn’t notice until the end of my trip this Proposition 65 warning sign hiding down my the front door warning of exposure in the area to chemicals that that cause cancer and birth defects. I tried to ask on this but wasn’t able to get a response on what this...
Read moreFalsely Accused Of Smoking In Room - possible inside job or staff?
I am not one to leave reviews and I’m very upset to be posting this. We stayed at Kasa on Sunset Blvd. After our stay, we received an email falsely accusing us of smoking in our room which lead to a $250 charge, and a ban from staying at Kasa ever again. This is an absolutely false accusation as I have asthma and cannot smoke, and the person staying with me does not smoke in any capacity. Our room did slightly smell of smoke on our second day there, but we did not think much of it. I thought maybe surrounding rooms were smoking. I wish I would have reported it, but did not want to make a big deal. Huge regret now. I pleaded my case and Kasa did not reconsider. They did not provide any proof. They said after we checked out the smell was so bad that they had to use some sort of ozone air purifier. This was the first and only time there was evidence of our room being cleaned (which only consisted of them taking out our trash, beds were still unmade and bathroom untouched), both followed by a smoke smell, leading me to believe that it was the cleaning staff or other staff on site. Even after expressing this, Kasa said their decision was final. Understand they would not look internally as they of course like every company, they are looking out for themselves.
I urge you to not stay here or to report anything strange immediately. There is definitely something going on whether it’s a lack of security leading to access to rooms, the staff smoking in rooms, or a possible cash grab by the hotel. I would like to think the best of people, but in today’s world none of this can be ruled out. You’re better off at a normal hotel, where there is a front desk, reliable security, and regular staff on site. The place is absolutely deserted so it seems like a perfect place for something like this to happen and you have no defense besides your word against theirs. I am curious if anyone else has experienced this or something similar while staying here. Don’t let the affordable price fool you, you will pay in other ways. This experience has deeply upset me. I wish this did not happen as up until this point I had a great stay and was planning on coming back in the summer for my birthday. Very unfortunate, please just stay at normal hotel and save yourself the trouble.
Update: not only was I falsely charged and accused but they...
Read moreWe unfortunately had the same experience as another guest of being falsely accused of smoking in the room. I live nearby and recommended that my mom book at Kasa for a couple of nights while she was visiting. We were both impressed by the space and agreed it would be great for when other family and friends come to visit. She did have issues with the thermostat- whether it was staff or the previous guest, someone had set it to 79 degrees and had programmed it to be at that temperature every hour over night. It made for a slightly uncomfortable sleep, but that wasn’t the end of the world. When my mom checked out, she rated it 5 stars and again, we both agreed she and any other family and friends coming to visit should stay here. The following day, she received an email saying that they would be keeping her $250 deposit because they “identified you or a member of your party allegedly smoked on-site” and that she “would not be allowed to stay with Kasa in the future” She emailed back saying that nobody had smoked in the unit and that the only smell that would have been in the room would have been from the previous night’s dinner that was in the garbage. Their team replied saying that the room “smelled strongly of smoke” and “required remediation with an ozone machine”. Their “decision to keep the deposit was final and would not be reconsidered.” Unfortunately, it’s their word against ours and no evidence was presented. My mom is sensitive to smoke and being around it gives her migraines and nausea. There isn’t a world in which she would smoke or allow someone to smoke in her rental. I have no idea if this is a scam from Kasa or an unfortunate instance of another guest’s failure to comply with the rules. There are good things about this rental, but based on our experience and another guest’s review, you’re gambling your security deposit even if you follow their rules. I’m bummed because it could have been such a good situation, but I will not be recommending Kasa to our friends and family. It is what it is and I hope that future guests do not have the...
