Mateo's Ice Cream & Fruit Bars — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Bought an esquite from here and wait time took a bit long for just that but that wasn’t really the issue. After receiving my esquite I opened it up in the car, the cheese was pretty funky but I thought maybe it’s just me overreacting, I proceeded to take a bite and the cheese tasted expired. Literally like expired milk smell and taste. I went back in to notify the cashier. Didn’t make a scene or anything just told her that the cheese tasted expired. She then went and got the “person in charge”. This man tried to play if off as if that’s the way cotija cheese smells and tastes. I’m not new to cotija cheese, I use it in various dishes. Yes, it was cotija but expired cheese at that. He told me so would you like a new esquite with no cheese? Hah that’s hilarious, then that would just be corn, I told him no thank you I’d just like my money back. To which he went back and forth with me over $5.50 saying the cheese isn’t expired because the expiration date hasn’t passed. Cheese can expire from improper storage. If he hadn’t been rude maybe I would’ve substituted for something else like an ice cream but for him to argue with me over expired cheese, nah I’m good. To top it off I’m pregnant and expired cheese could definitely cause many problems for my baby and I. Don’t mutter things under your breath either after being in the wrong, some people have patience and won’t cause a scene and others will. Expected a lot from this establishment especially with all the variations they carry, unfortunate. This happened on the 28th of October...

Pre-pandemic, this was the place I'd pick up lunch and tell my colleagues about. But last Thursday, I got a drink that was made with expired fruit, and they forgot the fruit cup from the combo. I let it go as it happens. I just thought I'd mention it so they can look out for the cup and make sure the drinks are made fresh every day, which was confirmed. Purchased the same for my colleague and I different drink, of course. They did include both fruit cups, but now, I have food poisoning. Last time. Be warned. I am not sure if it was the fruit or the fruit drink. But I'm certain it was the fruit as I did catch rotten strawberry in my cup. That alone says a lot about the drinks. Hope it gets back to service it once was. Everyone upfront was courteous, yet the food has left a bad feeling. Recommend eating in and not taking it to go just so you can get your money back or something else. Not worth driving back...

Real bad customer service was rushed to order the employee had a real bad attitude was discriminated do to the fact of having tattoos after ordering 5 ice creams the woman served the ice cream and when I tried paying she lied about not having change for $100.00 dollars when they been selling ice cream all day she also did some unsanitary stuff she took all the ice cream scoops that were served in our cups and put them back into to the container from the cups do to covid I think that was very unsafe of her she was rude all the way around never going to this spot again don't recomend to any one she should get suppended or fired💯☢️☣️toxic vibes...
