I witnessed the owner (manager?) (someone unloading liquor from the back of their car at 11pm) and the door guy kick a woman in a tent in front a of a near by business (not theirs). I was waiting in front of the smoke shop two doors down and was startled when two men started yelling. When I peered around the corner I see that they're yelling at a singular tent that is outside of the vacant business in between the smoke shop and them. Then I witness both the men start kicking the tent while saying "we know you're in there" and to each other "she needs to move" so acknowledging it is a woman they are kicking and that she is inside of the tent they are kicking. They did not once try to approach the situation with care or compassion. They assaulted a houseless woman. THEN. She flew her tent, leaving her belongings and the boys seemed to settled down and from there I walk towards them, three white appearing males talking about bob seager like he matters, I wait for ten minutes until I finally pull -manager seeming dude- aside and say "hey can I have a word with you?" I tell him that I can understand that it can be frustrating to know what to do in these situations but that I saw him KNOWINGLY kick a woman and that wasn't ok. He proceeded to get less than an inch away from my face screaming at me I didn't understand and that he kicked her because he had to. "I told her to move and she didn't!" --they gave her like three seconds to even respond-- (also physically hurting anyone is not called for in this situation) The door guy also called me a Karen and told me to leave a yelp review to which I said "Why would I do that, I am literally say this to your face right now?" But after further reflection, it's obvious to me, that both men, with how aggressively they were coming at me and how I literally saw them assault another woman, don't actually care. So I wanna leave this review and I want evervone to know how this bar is treating its neighbors, because our houseless friends are our neighbors. She wasn't doing anything but sleeping. Imagine being woken up to people kicking you...
Read moreI visited The Monty Bar while on vacation in Los Angeles, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable stops of my trip. I happened to come in on reggae night, and the DJ set the perfect tone for the evening—the music blended seamlessly with the vibe of the space, adding to the atmosphere without being overwhelming.
The bar itself has a unique charm. From what I gathered, it may have once been an old train depot that has since been retrofitted into a warm, wood-lined bar with character in every corner. The combination of dark wood, cozy seating areas, and subtle lighting gives it a timeless feel that’s both rustic and inviting. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to settle in for the night.
The highlight of my visit, though, was without a doubt the bartender. I believe her name was Kyoko—an attractive young woman, probably in her late 20s or early 30s, with a warm and enthusiastic smile that made me feel instantly welcome. She went above and beyond to make the experience fun. At one point, she prepared a five-shot drink mixture that wasn’t just tasty but also interactive and entertaining—it felt like a mini event in itself. After that, I tried one of her Old Fashioneds, and it was hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly balanced, smooth, and crafted with obvious care. From what I could tell, these drinks are her specialty, and I’d highly recommend anyone visiting to give them a try.
Another nice touch was the outdoor lounge area in the back. It’s a relaxed, open space where you can bring your drinks, enjoy a cigarette if that’s your thing, or just take in the warm Los Angeles night air while unwinding away from the main bar crowd.
All in all, The Monty Bar impressed me with its mix of atmosphere, music, history, and top-notch service. Between the reggae night vibes, the cozy wooden interior, and the outstanding drinks by Kyoko, it checked all the boxes for a great night out. I’ll definitely be back the next...
Read moreI recently visited Monty's Bar on a Thursday night, hoping to enjoy a relaxing evening with friends. Unfortunately, the experience fell short of my expectations, as the atmosphere both inside and outside the bar was rather disappointing.
The area surrounding Monty's Bar felt eerie and desolate, which was quite unexpected. This may have been due to the fact that it was a weeknight, but it definitely didn't provide a welcoming first impression.
Upon entering the bar, we found the vibes inside to be similarly lackluster. The place was not bustling at all, and the energy was noticeably low. While it's possible that Monty's Bar may have a more lively atmosphere on weekends, our Thursday night visit left much to be desired.
Adding to our dissatisfaction was the slow service from the bartender. We had to wait longer than expected for our drinks, which only further dampened our spirits.
In summary, our experience at Monty's Bar on a Thursday night was underwhelming, with a lackluster atmosphere and slow service. It might be worth giving the bar another chance during the weekend, but I would advise against visiting on a weeknight if you're looking for a lively,...
