We stayed at this hotel from 1/31-2/3 and on the last day we woke up early so we could have some time to go explore the city before we check out. We went to valet podium and handed them our ticket so they could go get our car. 20 minutes pass and we are still waiting for our vehicle-shortly after one of the representatives comes over to us to ask the color, make and model of the car. Another 30 minutes pass so by this time we walk over to the valet podium again and ask is their a reason why it is taking so long- They reply with we cannot find your key or the car but we are looking for it. So by this time we knew that our previous plans to explore the city before check out was not going to happen- we went upstairs to begin packing to we could check out. Packing took us another 30 minutes but now we are worried because our rental car and needed to be returned by 10:30 and we were AT least 45-50 minutes from the drop off location. We get our bags then we headed back downstairs, by this time we needed to check out. I asked to speak to a manager- Danny was a manager on duty QUICKLY stated that he could not assist us because he was not over the front desk he was just one of the managers. Charles then comes out his office and we give him an overview of what happened- he QUICKLY stated "The valet services have nothing to do with the hotel itself, they are contracted and they have their own managers but I will go see if they can get their manager here" . He came back in and stated that their is on the way, so we had to wait for their manager to arrive to get something done. The hotel then states we will refund you for the valet services. Once the manager came he found our keys- BUT its already 9:50. With LA traffic we were late turning in our rental and we had to pay for another FULL day which was $150.00 AND we missed our flight and had to wait until 10:55 pm to catch another flight back to Indiana. PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE!! The fact that the Courtyard put us off as if we did not just pay over $400.00 to stay here was horrible. EVERYONE at the front desk Nat, Malik and even the manager Danny stood around laughing, cursing and speaking about things that were NON related things after they dismissed us. They gave us a total of $113.95 back and this DOES NOT EVEN COVER half of what we had to pay for flights another day for the car. Indiana is three hours ahead of CA by the time we made it back here it was 6 am and I had to be at work 8 am. I WILL NEVER STAY AT ANOTHER MARRIOTT, PAY THE EXTRA MONEY AND GO TO THE...
Read moreI reserved this hotel room over one month in advance for a King bed. A week or so prior to my stay on 15 August I changed the room from a King bed to 2 queens because an associate was now accompying me on the trip. When I arrived after 8:30pm the receptionist at the front desk (named Cassie) told me that my request to change from a King to two queens was never fully processed and therefore she couldn't give my a room with 2 queen beds. I asked if there were any other rooms with 2 queen beds still available and she said there was one but she couldn't give it to me at the government rate without permission. I asked her to check with a manager to approve that change. The system reflected my attempts to change room type so I felt that the right customer service decision would have been to see if I could be given the room that I needed. Especially given that I was standing there with my associate clearly in need of 2 queen beds. Cassie had reason after reason why she wouldn't check with a manager. After going back and forth for 15 minutes I finally resigned to taking the King Room and sleeping on the pull out sofa because I had been awake for 16 hours at work and needed to wake up at 6am the following morning. Cassie said she would have linens and blankets for the sofa bed delivered to the room. 20 minutes later I still had not recieved linens and blankets. I called down to the front desk and explain that I couldn't go to bed because I had not recieved my linens and blankets yet. The front desk said they would fix the problem. Over an hour later I still had not recieved linens and blankets so I went to the front desk to inquire and complain. The manager got on the radio and ordered them to hurry up. 10 minutes later at 10:40pm I finally had linens and blankets for my pull out sofa.
I couldn't belive that Cassie wouldn't even check with a manager to honor my obvious need and earlier attempt to get a room with 2 queen beds. She demonstrated very little concern for my comfort and made little effort to think of ways to meet my needs. I even asked for a roll away and she said there aren't very many to give out and she 'thought' they were all gone. Then I waited over an hour and a half for linens.
As the customer I felt like I was a burden to Marriott and an invoncience to Cassie. I can take my business anywhere but chose to bring it to Marriott properties because they are typically known for great customer service and a...
Read moreI stayed with a friend in a room with two twin beds. This was over 3 days, during the Anime Expo convention 2019. We have now stayed in a total 6-7 hotels in the area besides this one (including Marriott, Residence Inn in the same building). Most of my comments will be in comparison to other hotels.
TLDR: Out of all of the hotels that we have used the past 10 years for the Anime Expo, this is a competitor for being one of my favorites. However, as I say for all hotels, there are many options in the area and a little bit of research on a variety of hotels is recommended since each offers a little something different.
Good: This is among the closest hotels to the convention center. During a convention with approx. 200,000 attendees, baggage check is a problem for all hotels (especially on the last day). Of the hotels, Courtyard/Residence Inn implemented the best method I have seen for ensuring safe storage of guest belongings (large area set aside, constant monitoring by staff). If there is a problem with any devices in the room (lights, TV, etc.) staff will be sent to the room. In our case this was for the television and the staff member arrived in 15 minutes. If this is same as Residence Inn, then this service is available 24/7. Not all hotels have a mini-fridge in the room, but this does.
Neutral: The alarm went off in the evening 2 out of the 3 nights we stayed here. This is unlikely to be the hotel's fault and the staff announced an "all clear" within 5-10 minutes. The bathroom lights automatically turn on by motion detection. This can be a nuisence to light sleepers. However, the staff can quickly disable this. Got to experience a rare 7.1 earthquake (Northridge) from the 20th floor. I don't know how most hotels fair in this regard, but at the Courtyard/Residence Inn, while the swaying is a little worrying, I was never uncomfortable or fearful for my well-being. There is a continental breakfast in the building (a rare amenity in the area). However, this looks like it may be reserved for the Residence Inn guests.
Bad: Bathroom door is a sliding door that DOES NOT LOCK. While aesthetically nice, this may make individuals who prefer the privacy of a locking door, uncomfortable. For the Courtyard room, the sliding door had to be closed in order to access the fridge. Most hotels in the area have been able to check me into my room prior to the guaranteed time (4pm). Courtyard was unable to do...
