If you are looking for a hotel to secure a block of rooms for your wedding guests, DO NOT choose Hotel Figueroa.
We chose Hotel Figueroa as the hotel for ourselves and all of our wedding guests to stay at earlier this month because our wedding was located at a nearby venue in downtown Los Angeles. From start to finish, the experience was extremely disappointing to say the least.
For context, across all of our guests we ended up booking 25 rooms which included the hotel's largest suite for my husband and I - totaling nearly $15,000 in revenue for the hotel that weekend. This didn't even include all the money our friends and family spend on food and drinks at the hotel.
Despite all of the business we brought to the Hotel Figueroa, they did absolutely nothing to show any appreciation or to help us celebrate our wedding weekend. They couldn't even do the bare minimum we would expect from a hotel on a regular stay, let alone our wedding weekend.
Check-in at the hotel is 4pm. We requested an early check-in of 2pm for our suite. We know that "early check-in is never guaranteed" but we assumed they would honor a 2 hour early check-in given it was our wedding weekend and we were bringing them a lot of business. We got to the hotel at 2pm and they said the room wasn't ready yet but they would try to rush it. We went to the hotel pool for a drink while we waited. We checked in with the front desk a few times and the room still wasn't ready. At 4pm (the hotel's actual check-in time) we went to the front desk again and our room STILL was not ready. By this point we were starting to stress because we had a rehearsal dinner scheduled at a nearby restaurant at 5pm. At 4:20 they gave us the key to our suite and said the staff would bring up our luggage right away. It wasn't until 4:35 that our luggage was brought to the room. This left us about 15 minutes to quickly get ready before having to leave for our rehearsal dinner. Because of this, we were very rushed and stressed as we headed to our rehearsal dinner, all due to the hotel's inability to do the bare minimum which is have our room ready by their standard check-in time.
If that wasn't bad enough, they didn't even do anything to make up for the inconvenience. We thought maybe they'd bring us a bottle of champagne or a voucher for drinks at the bar or something - but nope! Not a thing. Let's not forget, we're paying $725 per night (for two nights) for the hotel's largest suite.
Additionally, my mother in law had made goodby bags for all of the wedding guests and instructed the hotel staff to give them to each guest upon check in. This was a service that she PAID the hotel to do and they didn't distribute the bags. After my MIL complained, they distributed the bags to the guests rooms later that evening.
On top of all this, the day of our wedding my bridesmaids got their hair and make up done in my suite. We asked the hotel for some glasses so we could make mimosas. We also ordered some food from the cafe downstairs. After our wedding that evening, my husband and I came back to the suite to find that the room keeping service had left all the glassware and left over food from the hotel cafe in our suite. This definitely wasn't the experience we were hoping to walk into after our wedding.
Across the board, it felt like the Hotel Figueroa staff didn't care in the slightest about making this a positive experience for ourselves and our guests that weekend. They couldn't even do the bare minimum like get us into our (very expensive) suite ON TIME or clean up the dishes left over in our suite. Again, this was all extremely disappointing considering we brought in thousands of dollars in revenue between ourselves and all of our wedding guests who stayed there that weekend.
It's a cute hotel that offers a good rate on guest rooms, but choose the Hoxton or the Ace if you want quality service for your...
Read moreI am absolutely furious! This hotel has me seething with anger! We had the most horrendous experience during our stay in February! We had booked a four-night stay in a room with a king-sized bed.
Upon our arrival, they had the audacity to inform us that there were no more king bed rooms available. Instead, they gave us a room with a queen-sized bed and made promises that they would provide us with a king bed room the next day, along with compensating us with breakfast for two.
On the second day, we obediently packed our belongings early in the morning as instructed, believing that their staff would handle the transfer to the new room. We even received confirmation when we left the hotel. But to our utter disbelief, upon returning at 10 pm, they casually informed us that they had forgotten to reserve a king bed room for us. This time, they had the audacity to offer a mere price adjustment to the queen bed room. We were forced to pay for a king bed room while enduring a queen bed room for two nights!
Finally, on the third day, they grudgingly assigned us a king bed room. However, at 9 pm, we received a distressing call from the hotel notifying us that one of their valet parking employees had recklessly damaged our rental car in their parking lot. Adding insult to injury, the employee outright refused to provide their insurance information. The valet parking fee was a hefty $50 per day. And guess what? They only waived the parking fee for the night our car was hit!
As if that wasn't enough, on our last day, they had the audacity to present us with a bill that still charged us for a king bed room for all four nights, valet parking for four days, and even the breakfast that was supposed to be compensated! We had to argue vehemently with them to finally correct the bill. But the nightmare didn't end there! A week later, we discovered a shocking charge of $93 on our credit card for the breakfast! Fuming with anger, we immediately contacted the credit card company to dispute the transaction. And unbelievably, another week passed, and they charged us again! Fed up with their incompetence and lack of regard for their customers, we reluctantly paid the second time, not wanting to waste any more precious time arguing with them.
To make matters worse, we are currently embroiled in a frustrating battle with the car rental company and our insurance provider over the car damage incident. The hotel employee responsible for the collision has shown complete disregard by refusing to provide her insurance information and ignoring all calls from the insurance company. It appears we may be left with no choice but to shoulder the repair costs ourselves.
In light of the appalling treatment we received and the countless issues we encountered, we vehemently advise against anyone considering staying at this hotel. The complete lack of professionalism, disregard for customer satisfaction, and the sheer incompetence displayed by the staff have left us absolutely outraged. It is clear that this establishment has no regard for the well-being and comfort of its guests. Save yourself the frustration and disappointment by steering clear of this hotel...
Read morePreface this review is from the point of view of a Globalist. Stayed Tue, Wed, checked out on a Thur, the hotel was in my view not crowded, though from speaking with staff, it can become quite full if a famous person or a large event is within the vicinity.
I had made my booking the night prior (Monday) I checked into the hotel in the evening around 6-7PM I was helped by their bellman Jesse and since I booked these nights with points/4 star cert I knew I would get free parking which is valuable and was offered as part of my stay. Otherwise you likely are looking at $55 + tax per night. As a globalist, this property's resort fees were waived and it's on any paid or points stays otherwise I believe it's $35 plus tax per night.
Checked in, was upgraded to a suite as mentioned it was not crowded (don't expect this if the hotel is busy), of the 2 elevators the right most one was being repaired for the entirety of my stay, but it was fine had no issues waiting for the other one.
Room highlights: There were these lovely tiles in the bathroom, now of course if you have sensitive feet you will perhaps need to bring slide on shoes for the shower as the ground is actually mosaic pebbles but this is no long term Hyatt house long term stay where that would matter. The chairs in the room also were comfortable, hypothetically if you had someone who was short they likely could sleep on the couch in the foyer as there are 2 separate thermostats in each room. The fan did not seem to work in the foyer but that didn't matter.
Bed was comfortable, windows are sound proof to the exterior, if you open one you will hear the terrible city noise. As some people made mention to on google, yes you can hear footsteps above you, but that's likely do to the architecture of the hotel. I would bring ear plugs perhaps, though it's not necessary, this is not anywhere as noisy as the Dream or Andaz on Hollywood.
Breakfast: Meal ticket provided to me as a globalist consisted of 1 entree and 1 non alcoholic beverage (refreshers excluded). Very good food, though I did not try the chicken waffle, Karen who worked the front desk mentioned it was really a top choice. The burger was my favorite and yes I did have it at 7:30am this is America. Jorge works the mornings and speaks fluent Spanish and English and some french so he's fun to chat with while your food is being made.
The pool slightly chilly, but still fun to visit, the gym has a peloton, for those of you looking to complete the Hyatt/peloton 20 minute workouts for 500 Hyatt points I do believe it's possible to complete them on the bikes in that gym. Hummingbirds frequent the exterior trees and it's worth looking around at the flowers and plants on the upper levels.
Overall great stay, location was 8 minutes from the State department building and my car was not broken into. It's LA, I wish things were cheaper but I'd suggest the Figueroa, your likely to get far...
