Where do I start? Groupon (the vendor) cancelled an Argentine dinner/show event that I was looking forward to seeing. Regressing. Point is, I hated this place and I would never recommend it. Now I'm jumping ahead.
I came here on a dinner date with my wife hoping to be another amazing night. I'm always surprising my wife and I always keep it interesting, new, unexpected and never disappointing...again going down the wrong path.
Just know, it's always amazing and she's always impressed.
To me, the key to my success is the element of surprise and always a sense of adventure.
Back to the review. Came here because it was the best option in such a short notice. Do I regret that decision.
First we couldn't find it. It is somewhere in the middle of DTLA (Barely learned that). Been to Downtown Los Angeles lately?
Worse is that Google maps and Waze let us down because it kept us going around in circles.
Wife using her freaking iPhone (... don't get me started) found how to get us here. I knew in advance there would be difficulties parking as it was expensive per reviews I read. I don't know how much it is but I'd recommend finding out or just paying to avoid the hassle. Found out they'll stamp your ticket. Wish I would have known as I ended parking next door and was that a mission. Sure...it is only a few hundred feet way...a quick 10 minutes walk but the poblem was finding how/where to actually park. It was the most confusing parking structure so be warned.
As far as the restaurant, it is inside the hotel on the 7th floor (I believe). My first impression was positive until I took a closer look. The restaurant is like those you find at resorts and I don't mean in a good way. Before telling you why, let me tell you about the restaurant itself.
We were promptly seated and were seated by a huge glass window facing the outdoors. The view we're pretty amazing. Unfortunately, the clientale and over all atmosphere were disappointing. The people were wearing shorts and t-shirts... extremely casual for my taste.
The overall service was good. The waiter wasn't great but nothing to complain.
The food and food options on the other hand was a totally different story. I'll confess. I am a picky eater whom doesn't go outside his comfort zone too often so there's that.
I'll say this. Aside from the most expensive item in the menu; we could pick anything we wanted as far as the Groupon is concern. I hate to say it but greed got the best of us because we wanted steak so ended up going with the 2nd most expensive item on the menu. The steak was cooked perfectly and presented accordingly. Unfortunately, it had a cherry reduction sauce which looked amazing except we didn't like it. If you go this route, I'd suggest asking g for it on the side. The fish came with vegetables shavings so ended up having to order a side dish of mashed potatoes and that was the best part of our dinner.
As far as alcohol/drinks. My wife ordered an a beer she's familiar with. I on the other hand picked a mixed drink and boy was it horrible which I ended up exchanging for this amazing Cabernet Sauvignon which our waiter suggested.
For dessert, again we didn't see anything we'd like so instead we asked for chocolate ice cream (off menu). It wasn't great but hard to go wrong with ice cream.
This restaurant has huge potential but for us, a total failure and I doubt we're alone as it was empty. Glad we got a deal ($87+tip+parking) otherwise my reviews would have been worse.
I don't think it was it for us but it might be for you. My only tip is to make sure you know where is located. Know how to get there, where to park and what to expect. Aside for that, check the menu and know...emphasis on know what to eat before deciding to come so you're not disappointed.
As you can tell, it wasn't an expected night so I was disappointed and worse,...
Read moreI’m providing a blended score of 3 based on food and service
The food brought the score up to a 3 as the service would have probably stalled this review at about a 1
Let’s start with the bad so we can end on a positive note
Our waitress was one of the most passive aggressive servers I’ve ever encountered and mind you I do food reviews on a regular basis.
One member of our party ordered French toast which came with roasted potatoes. She also asked for a side of hash browns.
Server responds your food already comes with potatoes
My friend responds she’s aware but would like hash browns as well.
Server responds You’re going to eat all of that food because that’s a lot of food for one person to eat
Entire table just stared at her
I then ask if they have coffee and if they’re able to make a caramel latte
Server answers No I ask no to which part She responds again no
At this point it’s too early and I’m too tired and haven’t had caffeine so I wave over another server and he and I discuss my latte options
One of the girls stated she forgot something in our room and the new server states he can call someone to bring our items down.
Old server seems confused and our new server explains we’re in one of the top suites (added perk for me traveling so much and doing reviews) and it’s one of the nicest suites there
Now our old server is Miss Hospitality as she feels we now have money
Needless to say a caramel latte can all of a sudden be hand crafted and one appears
As the chefs have nothing to do with service I will say I had 0 complaints about the food. The food came out relatively quickly and everything was cooked to perfection.
The chicken and waffles was a fan favorite for the table. The chicken looks like chicken nuggets and we’re bursting with flavor. Dipped into whatever creamy sauce they created and it was pure bliss.
I ordered the breakfast sandwich which arrived on super soft brioche bread and the bacon was deliciously crispy. I also got Tater tots and found myself doing a happy dance which sipping my latte.
0 complaints on food Service needs some work
Perhaps don’t judge what people are ordering Offer options if something is not available And treat everyone the same regardless of perceived wealth or not
That human standard goes a long way when it...
Read moreWe were staying in the hotel and needed dinner as we were wiped out from an active day. It was 7:45 & they said we could sit in the lounge or outside and use the same menu. This was very fair as we did not have any reservations. We did tell the hostess we would be outside near a heat lamp as it was 50 degrees (freezing) and we had 2 kids with us. Staff walked past us for 30 minutes. We had menus in our hands from initially entering the restaurant. Finally a kind, young black man came out and asked if we were going to dine and brought us inside. He cleared a spot for us on the couch. This was the first time we saw him or he would have helped us sooner. Our female server took our orders and after another 20 minutes said, "I'm going on break but will check on your food since it's taking a long time". Never saw her again. I was still thawing out from my 30 minutes outdoors. We asked a guy for our bill as we never saw the server again. Some lady immediately pops her head in to say, "what do you want?" Excuse me? Better demeanor? Maybe I'm just pampered bc we ate at Spago for lunch, penthouse prior day, and similar nearly every day while on vacation but your service sucks and so does your food. Even if I wasn't eating like trailer trash while sitting on a couch, the food was not great. In fact, the meat...
