Been going here for 3 years. Today for lunch I was craving shepards pie but my wife wanted subway. Luckily there was one across the street. Since the pie would take longer I went to pickwicks, put in the order and asked for a bloody mary (only about 5 ppl in there since it was lunch). About 5 min later the wife walked in w her 6 in sub and ordered a bloody mary as well. Once the bartender came back w her drink and saw her eating a sub she said she can't eat her sub there "because they have camera's and she'll get in trouble if management sees someone in there eating other food". I tried to politely explain that she wasn't really putting anyone out since the place was empty and I did order food as well as both of our drinks. Didn't phase her, so I said I'm not going to make my wife eat alone, she can either allow her to finish the sub or cancel my order. This is when she started getting rude, she asked something to the effect of "when have u ever been able to bring someone else's food into a bar". I couldn't help but laugh as I do it ALL the time. We're picky eaters and fortunately up until this day every business we've done this at understands the 5 seconds it'll take to wipe down a table or bar where there's crumbs or something from my wife is well worth the $$$ they would get from me for my dish and associated drinks. And its not like I busted into Ruth Chris's w a hot dog. This is a small bar w a small menu. Alas tho, its a bar I'll never be returning to unless management decides this is a rather ridiculous policy and communicates that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHeard about this place from a cousin, and had a great first experience here. Simple, but excellent front decor that formed a small outside patio for some diners, with an interior that reflected many other British pubs in the community, but no less decorative and culturally aesthetic to the UK. Outdoor dining in the back was available, and the arrangements were well-organised with good solid tables and very comfortable wickerwork chairs with cushions. The service was very good, following proper safety and health guidelines, and was prompt in the provisions. The fare itself was very satisfying: the Pickwick pie (consisting of chunks of streak in a Guinness stout sauce and flaky crust), fish and chips, while my friends enjoyed bangers and mash, plus the curry chicken (that reminded me of a very pleasant tikka masala sauce common in Indian cuisine). Ginger ale was light in colour, but you could really taste the ginger itself which was a nice zing for a simple cool drink. Thank you to the servers, cooks and other staff for making my dining experience at Pickwick's an enjoyable one and I wish them the best of success and prosperity in the business, onwards...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOverall great place to get some drinks and a bite to eat but i only have one complaint. There was a man sitting at the bar who looked to be nearly 60 (although he claimed to only be 53). He had a beer gut too. The entire time he was arguing with his friends (?) loudly about politics and screaming about "da trolls". It was made worse by the fact that when he did this little pieces of food would fly out of his mouth and land on his shirt. Interestingly, I went back to Pickwick's today and he was wearing the same shirt. One time i stopped in right when they opened to use the bathroom in an emergency and he was already there. I think his name was John Melendez. One of my friends actually noticed this guy multiple times too and...
