A few of my friends took our friend out for her birthday here tonight and most of the food was great as always. Unfortunately our vegan gyoza came out and tasted/looked like like pork. One of my friends is Muslim and I am vegan, both of us do not eat pork. We both accidentally ate these, thinking they were vegan. No one came to check on us throughout the entire meal so I could not tell our waitress until the end where she dropped off our check and said was everything good? She should've checked on us before she brought the check, but I digress. I told her unfortunately our gyoza are not vegan and she just looked surprised but did not apologize. She just said "oh really?" I explain to her two of us consumed them thinking they were vegan, and we wanted to let her know. She said "okay thank you". She then walked away without saying anything else and never came back for our check), so I had to go up to the front and ask for boxes for our leftovers/ ask how to pay. The girl at the front desk asked me if it was the $98 order with the vegan gyoza, so I replied yes but our gyoza were not vegan. She immediately said she was sorry and she would take them off the bill, which is not what I requested but of course I appreciated this since it was the wrong item. She then says she will bring us the new check and boxes to our table.
Here's the kicker: When she comes to our table with the boxes, she brings the same check with no deductions, and insists that the gyoza we were served were vegan. I showed her the pork inside, and she takes our unfinished plate of gyoza and brings them to the kitchen saying she will double check. She comes back with all of our leftover gyoza ripped open, which were our leftovers for the non-vegans at the table, And proceeds to pick them up with her bare hands and say yeah it's potato. You could visibly see there were no vegetables inside the Gyoza, and she just was trying to prove us wrong. I thought this was very unprofessional, but I paid for the meal as to not make a scene on my friends birthday, tipped our server, and left. It left a very bad taste in my mouth, not only the gyoza, but the cashier's attitude and insistence on proving me wrong in front of the whole restaurant. It was completely unprofessional and downright gross to rip open our gyoza with her bare hands and then still make us pay for them. Please train the girl who worked at your front...

Read moreMy friend and I planned to get lunch at Rakkan, I signed up and waited 20 minutes (despite the fact that there were a lot of empty tables and no line). My friend brought in outside food as she was not having ramen, and we did not think this would be a problem as other restaurants in the Little Tokyo area usually do not mind as long as a person in the party is purchasing from their business. My friend and I finally get a table and sit down, so I start looking at the menu, and she starts unpacking her outside food (which was a small salad). Before she even has a chance to fully take her food out, a staff member approaches us and rudely lets us know that we can’t bring outside food in. Now, I’m usually very respectful of that, since I understand where they’re coming from, but I was going to purchase food from them so I didn’t not understand why the server was prohibiting my friend from eating her food there, especially since my friend has many food allergies and her food options are quite limited. Additionally, it was a slow day and there were many empty tables so it’s not like they had a limited amount of tables and my friend was taking up space. Weirdly, I’ve also seen other people eating outside food here and the staff never told them anything. I asked the server if she could make an exception and she rudely kept stating that no outside food was allowed, forcing us to leave the restaurant. I was appalled by the lack of consideration. I understand the no outside food policy if no one is purchasing from the restaurant or if there are a limited amount of tables, but that was not the case in this situation. There were also no signs in the restaurant advising customers of this rule. Had the server been more lenient about their nonsensical rule or had even been kinder about their about the way she let us know, I’d feel less disappointed. Just because not everyone can enjoy your food doesn’t mean you should spoil it for the rest of us. Sadly this was one of my favorite places to eat at, as my office is down the street and my colleagues and I usually placed orders often. After this experience, I’m sure none of my colleagues will be purchasing from this greedy business again....
