100% worst dining experience. The blonde waitress is SO rude. I love little Tokyo and I come here often. I saw this restaurant and decided to try it. I had just been shopping before I came to the restaurant and I bought a bottle of beer from a store near us (it was unopened I had not opened it nor was I planning to, it was in my bag and I was not going to take it out while at the restaurant) well anyways I go to sit down and I accidentally dropped my bag that had the bottle in it and it broke. I started cleaning it up and apologizing and we sat down at a different table. We wait a little while and nobody is coming to ask us our order and then security comes up to us and asks if everything’s okay and if we are actually going to order. We explained that I had accidentally dropped a bag that had glass in it and the security guard said the staff called security on us and he would tel them that we weren’t doing anything and everything was fine. Well, after that, we ordered and were trying to enjoy our meal but we had a security guard literally standing at our table staring at us. I promise you im not exaggerating he was standing AT our table watching us take every bite. I was with my grandfather and my girlfriend and my girlfriend was really upset because she felt like they were racially stereotyping my grandfather and I since we are both Hispanic. My girlfriend went inside to ask what was going on why they were staring at us when we didn’t do anything wrong at all besides ACCIDENTALLY drop a bottle and we even cleaned it up as much as we could. People accidentally drop things all the time. A very rude and condescending blonde woman (who I have also read MANY negative reviews about- that should definitely be a sign. For the sake of your business- FIRE HER.)said they called security on us because we were drinking alcohol. Mind you we had not taken a sip nor had we taken it out of the bag or opened it. We had bought it to enjoy when we got home that night. It was the worst and most awkward dining experience. We did nothing wrong I just wanted to enjoy a meal with my grandfather...
Read moreCame here for a chill lunch and they were the only place in the area open early in the day around 11am. The atmosphere was good, I really liked the music choice. Mostly ordered from the tablet, table service was ok. Servers were nice enough. The plates were chipped, and I really didn’t like that. Photo provided.
Unfortunately the food was quite hit or miss. The Katsu bento as pictured in my review was quite bad despite good presentation; 5/10. chicken was extremely dry, I’m used to ono Hawaiian BBQ for katsu and this plate paled in comparison. Possibly was just overcooked. The tempura that came with was undercooked on the other hand, and the veggies were raw in the center. Not a good option.
As for the sushi which most of us are going for anyway though, it was good. I especially enjoyed the tempura salmon roll, which was a stuffed baked salmon roll with the entire roll itself then fried in tempura batter. This was a delicious sushi and the highlight of the meal, a 8/10.
Lastly I got an order of the fried calamari and it wasn’t bad either, a solid 7/10 fried crispy and tasty.
Overall the restaurant is probably a 7/10 for me. I’d come back under similar circumstances and just stick...
Read moreWe were in the area and hungry; Las Galas is one of the first restaurants when you enter the village from the Japanese American National Museum side. We stopped at the entrance to check the menu out and the pricing seemed reasonable, there was no wait because they had seating inside and out. We got an outdoor dining table just before the giant lunch rush that had people lining up just outside the cordoned off dining areas for four different restaurants.
The service was fast, the food was super tasty, and we really enjoyed our various selections. I liked the 2 handrolls for $7 option, you only get to choose from 5 rolls, but they are the ones most people love, so no issue there. I also got a Bento box and was surprised that the picture showed it came with salad but the actual box came with mixed tempura. Yum! Bonus for sure. They do put furikake on their rice in the Bento so if you don't like that, ask for it without. It didn't come with miso, though, but it was a lot of food so I didn't miss it. Others just got sushi which was fast and fresh.
We would definitely return if there weren't so many other places in the village and surrounding area that we want...
