NYer here, the comparisons to NY bagels is ridiculous, nothing close at all.
The bagels are much lighter internally and softer on the outside than any NY bagel is.
With that said, it's not bad. It's like a doughy roll more than a traditional bagel and that's fine. I had a poppy with cream cheese. Bagel is big in size. Much bigger than anything in NY. The cream cheese was more whipped than block and had a slight odd taste for me. I'm being critical here, but honest.
No one was in the store when I went in. What was like NY was speed of service. I've been in some places it takes them minutes to slice a bagel and spread some cream cheese on it. I waited maybe 20 seconds and the price was only $4.30. The guy working this morning could work a NY bagel shop as far as efficiency. The place isn't pretty and that's not a knock on it, just staying the appearance.
As a stand alone review, I'd give it 3.7/5. Comparison to NY bagel, which it doesn't seem like that's the proprietor's goal, it would fall way short. Visit because you want to try their bagels, not because of claims it similar to a NY bagel. No need to compare the two, as a stand alone bagel shop, it's more than enough...
Read morea popular weekend breakfast spot, indeed! i was tasked with getting my friends and I some egg sandwiches a weekend i was visiting. one thing i will state is the early bird catches the worm because coming late morning yielded very few bagel choices. for my personal misfortune: no everything bagels! i had to opt for a cheese bagel instead. pretty much all the classic flavors were gone..even plain! so it goes. my friend is really into their salt bagel and that was available, as well as a multigrain.
is it the best bagels in town? probably not.. it seems to be a local spot and was fairly close to my friends with easy parking - at least on a sunday... hollywood parking rules are scary and confusing! anyway, our sandwiches hit the spot and the bagels were quite fresh. i was also really impressed with the back of the house lady's customer service. she was helping me left and right. they have very basic drip coffee pump containers and when one was empty...or completely cold, she hooked me up with getting brand new fresh coffee from the back. so from a service standpoint i was...
Read moreWhile the bagels are good, the customer service is abysmal! We ordered a blueberry bagel with plain cream cheese and an everything bagel with lox and plain cream cheese through Seemless. We received two everything bagels - one with plain cream cheese and one with chive cream cheese. Seemless spoke to the restaurant who agreed to refund our first order if we ordered and paid for a second order. We did, and this time they delivered a blueberry bagel with cream cheese and an everything bagel with cream cheese, but no lox! We called Seemless again who said they’d get the restaurant to refund the bagel with lox and cream cheese since we never received it. Apparently the manager April refused to do that. So we waited over two hours for an order that was STILL incorrect, and we paid for food we didn’t receive! NOT WORTH IT!
(Disclaimer - Seemless has been amazing and made up for the terrible manager at Sam’s Bagels by offering us a $25 credit on our next order from any restaurant...
