I'll start off by saying the waiter Jamie and bartender Greyci are amazing! They tried their best to accommodate us and ensure we still have a good time despite the issues we had. The 1 star is towards the restaurant. First, the menu online does not reflect their current menu they were offering for brunch. They no longer offer the margarita flights. They also do not have everything one the menu. The waiter had to tell us "I have to check to see if we have it." This is ridiculous! How do you not have everything on your "new" updated menu?! You may want to call before you go or make a reservations what's promoted on social media /online may not be available.
It took almost 2 hours to get a lemon-ade. The lemon-ade was pure squeezed lemons nothing else. This was given to a kid. They than brought out sprite. Who can go wrong with soda. The sprite taste like just syrup and water, the soda was flat! This is brunch! You would think everything would be excellent.
Oh, the food took very long we had to cancel orders! My neice had the chicken and waffles it had no flavor so she exchanged it out for the French toast bites that took for forever. The French Toast bites delicious. Maybe the best thing on the menu. We requested to speak with the owner who was also hosting who did not want come to the table to us. We spoke to the owner to express our concerns she blamed the rain and the reservation was never confirmed.
In regards to the confirmation of rsvp, I made the reservation over the phone for 1130am when I got the text they informed me they did not have 1130 anymore and can do 11am I said okay fine. She than sent me 10+ text for a link to pay a deposit... I informed her it wasn't working... she text me the day before and sent a different link. I paid and it said confirmed. There was a reservation for 12 in there system and confirmed in OpenTable. which should have been 14 but they had a table set up when we arrived to accommodate everyone in our group.
Do not blame the issues on reservations and weather! That wasn’t the issue and the owner is the issue! As we walked out she gives me two coupons for $25 off followed by a text with apology. Thank you, but will not be returning! It's a cute little place with potential. But, if the owner continues to run the business how she is its...
Read moreThe restaurant.our party of six were seated in the outdoor patio which was a litle dark at night time but which had a pleasant ambiance. Space heaters aplenty for those who feel a chill in the air. No problem. The menu. Small but adequate with a little something for all tastes I believe. Nice selection of original house cocktails but a poor selection of wines. The wait service. Things a bit rough around the edges here. Our waiter was a nice enough young lad but totally untrained and lacking that in experience. This was a comment that could be equally applied to the kitchen staff.....because The food service. Appetizers did not arrive before the entrees. In my opinion all six entrees should arrive almost simultaneously. After a wait that was starting to raise our eyebrows in wondering what's going on back there, plate one arrived, followed a couple of minutes later by three more and a further two or three minutes for the last. The food. Two diners had the pappardelle with short rib which were reported as excellent. My seabass was cooked just short of done and was okay: however the menu stated that it was accompanied by a celery puree which sounded interesting but it arrived on top of a bed of gluey inedible potatoes. Two steak dishes were ordered medium, one was satisfactory but the other was raw in places. When it was pointed out it was returned to the kitchen for the obligatory two minute spin in the microwave and did not improve whatsoever of course. The management. I know this is a tough business and I believe an honest review should be to show the ownership/management where their business fell down on on particular evening rather than to rant about the establishment in general. Could of been one bad night for all I know but I doubt it. There did not appear to be any control over the staff or their problems, from the floor to the kitchen. No one came to the table to ask how the service was. The raw steak was returned and thankfully did not reappear on the bill. Instead of the person in charge coming over to the table to apologise to the wounded diner a stale piece of tiramisu was the lone offering. Sharpen up dramatically all round. Hire some kind of overseer to keep track of how your hard earned...
Read moreCame here on a Thursday night to celebrate an early birthday. The restaurant can be hard to miss since it's located amongst homes and an apt building, but it is located right on the corner of the street. If you can find any, there is street parking or valet for $20 I believe (they accept cash or zelle).
Upon arriving, we were greeted and seated right away, although there seemed to be a bit of training still going on. Our reservation was at 6:45 pm and it wasn't very crowded inside. After being seated on the inside, we opted to sit outside on the patio since the weather was nice.
They have a nice but limited menu if you're looking for something more extensive, it may not be the place for you. My party and I ordered 2 drinks 1 appetizer, 1 salad, and 1 entree.
The drinks were good but not great we could barely taste the alcohol and for almost $20 I expected a bit more from them. (2/5)
Goat Cheese Beet Salad (5/5) We loved this Tuna Tartare (4/5) could have more flavorful Steak au Poivre (3/5) was on the saltier side and had a few fatty pieces, but the fries were nice crispy and the sauce was good.
The service was great and the food came out pretty quickly but all in all i don't think the price matched the quality of the food items. Plus they add an automatic 18% gratuity to the check for 1 or more person in the party which can be off-putting for some.
I've been able to get 2 drinks, 2 apps, 2 seafood entrees and 2 desserts (which Tal's only had one dessert that night) at a few restaurants in Malibu for about what we paid here so I just think they Tal's has room for improvement seeing as they've only been open since October...
