Crazy space. The Slipper Clutch doesn't have any outdoor signage, the bar exists behind another space that you walk through to get to it. You can sort of see the interior sign from the street if you look. The guy bouncing the place next door seemed really used to answering the question of Where is the slipper clutch! Inside there are like three or four bar areas with totally different vibes. The first area is more high class, fancy night bar. Through the door is another bar that's more punk rock, has arcade games and pool tables. It's kinda small but decent. They have a back patio too. The patio door was open all night so the place smelled of smoke from the outdoor smokers. If you keep going and go upstairs, you'll find the venue area with yet another bar. The music up there stays loud as heck so it kind of always sounds like a band is playing even when it's just the interstitial music. For the show I went to, bands didn't start playing until almost an hour and a half after the listed time, so definitely don't come early if you're just coming to rock. Tickets were cash only at the door, but it was only $7 - prices we ain't seen in decades! The music space itself is pretty decent, the stage is kinda small but it gets the job done. The room is pretty spacious and there was plenty of room for a bunch of people but also room to get away from the wild ones if you needed. There's also a very tiny upstairs patio (more like a ledge) but good to get some air. Pretty decent overall experience. I don't think they had food there but I didn't really look. Didn't see anybody eating anything tho! There are only two tables, outside on the patio. Otherwise it's bar or standing. Definitely not...
Read moreWould love to give this place a good rating - drinks were phenomenal, dug the vibe, fun crowd, but I had an extremely negative experience with the bartender working there Saturday night. The pinball machines ask you to download an app to pay to play them if you don’t have cash on you (see picture attached). The app is a scam and took $5 of mine before I gave up and realized it wasn’t working properly. When I approached the bartender to bring this up casually (after already spending $75+ there on drinks, we weren’t exactly freeloading), he indignantly kept cutting me off saying “I don’t know what you’re talking about, there’s no app we use for those, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” And that was that. It wasn’t as if I was being confrontational or bothering him during a super busy time either. It was totally uncalled for and disrespectful. For that reason alone, I can’t recommend this place. I don’t even care about getting my $5 back, but the attitude from the staff was something Slipper Clutch should acknowledge and...
Read moreI can't really say much about the food; there's some snacks in the front but since the location is closed to grand central market you can find any and all noshing items there that you please. This place is an awesome music venue!! There is a third bar / stage on the top level, and gives you a very intimate performance experience. It's a very punk vibe upstairs, there's another bar and an outdoor patio area to smoke on, which has a great view. Also the folks running sound do a good job. My only quibble is that there are not really any good sights lines to the stage if you're sitting at the bar. You have to physically leave the bar and seating area in order to watch the stage. Maybe there should be a row of seating along the wall that...
