Pershing Square Massacre: The Los Angeles Immigration Protests of June 2025
June 2025 saw Los Angeles become a flashpoint for intense protest, fueled by inhumane enforcement practices by federal officials. Under a hardline immigration agenda, federal agencies, notably Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), conducted widespread raids in predominantly Hispanic communities across the city. These operations led to numerous detentions and sparked immediate, fervent protests from residents, activists, and local officials, including Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom, who condemned the federal actions as excessive and terrorizing.
The situation escalated dramatically when the Trump administration, despite local objections, deployed the National Guard and U.S. Marines to Los Angeles. This unprecedented militarization of a domestic law enforcement response ignited further outrage, transforming many protests into direct confrontations with federal agents and military personnel. Reports emerged of tear gas, rubber bullets, and other measures being used against peaceful demonstrators.
Within this volatile environment, a particular incident stood out for its stark representation of perceived government aggression. During a protest where activists attempted to stop an ICE vehicle, a protester was struck and run over by the federal vehicle. As witnessed by some, including the source of this account, the individual was left on the ground, seemingly unable to move in the immediate aftermath. This harrowing event, where a citizen was reportedly struck by a government vehicle during a peaceful act of dissent, became a deeply symbolic moment for many, evocative of the "Tank Man" incident at Tiananmen Square.
For those who witnessed or learned of this specific occurrence, the incident crystallized concerns about unchecked federal power and excessive force against the people. The perceived failure of the government vehicle to stop, leaving a citizen in distress, resonated powerfully, leading some to refer to the broader events, or this incident as its defining hallmark, as the "Pershing Square Massacre". This term underscores the profound impact and chilling nature of what many considered to be a grave act of government overreach and a tragic indicator of the need for a re-evaluation of tactics in domestic enforcement.

Read moreI recently had the pleasure of attending a 4-hour event, DTLA Dog Days, on behalf of Bailey's CBD for pets at Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles. As a representative of my company, I was delighted by the overall experience and wanted to share my positive impressions.
First and foremost, the security measures put in place during the event were commendable. The presence of security personnel helped create a safe and welcoming environment for all attendees, including families. I felt reassured throughout the event, and it contributed to a sense of comfort and peace of mind.
One aspect that stood out to me was the limited presence of homelessness in the area. It was refreshing and pleasant to see a public space that was well-maintained and free from excessive homelessness. This added to the overall positive atmosphere and made the event more enjoyable for everyone present.
Pershing Square itself is a national landmark and a true gem in downtown Los Angeles. Its beauty, historical significance, and well-maintained surroundings make it a must-visit destination, particularly for those visiting from out of town. The square attracts a diverse crowd, and during my visit, I witnessed many people enjoying the park with their beloved pets. It's heartwarming to see the bond between pet owners and their furry friends being celebrated in such a vibrant setting.
While it's always important to exercise caution and be aware of one's surroundings, my experience at Pershing Square left me with a positive impression. It's a place where locals and visitors alike can come together, enjoy the ambiance, and appreciate the rich history of the city. I highly recommend a visit to Pershing Square when exploring downtown Los Angeles.
Thank you, Pershing Square, for providing a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for events like ours and for being a valuable asset to...

My best friend Anthony DeGoede told me about the B-52's concert at Pershing Square for FREE and I was very excited to attend.
However, when we all arrive, there were people everywhere and we all nearly gave up because we were told that there was no more room inside that area to fit any more people.
Well, I spoke to some homeless guy who knows the area and I am so glad that I took his advice because he told me to go through the underground parking lot all the way to the end and hopefully I can get in.
Well, when I got to the end, I went upstairs to another area where there were a lot of people and we were separated by a big metal fence.
I honestly could Not see very well from there, however, Luck Soon Approached All Of Us.
Maybe within about one (1) hour from when we arrived to that area somebody opened up the fence and let a lot of us in and then the view got much, much better.
However, it was still hard to see due to the crowd size, but there was a Statue that I was able to crawl up on and there were other people standing up there as well and so throughout most of the concert, I ended up dancing with the statue.
This was Not very comfortable for ME, but I guess it was better than Nothing!
This was far from the way that I like to enjoy my concerts.
My rating of 3 stars out of 5 reflects the concert situation and their disorganization and Not "The 52-s" themselves.
Often it is just better to pay for the Concert than to accept a free once and have to Suffer like this.
I personally want to thank my best friend Anthony DeGoede for inviting ME there and The B-52's for putting on a Fantastic Show despite the circumstances back on Saturday, August 12, 2017.
Sincerely yours,
Howard Paul Shore Visitor Executive, Volunteer Writer For Google And Tripadvisor...
