I really wanted to love this place. Sadly, it was mostly underwhelming. We stopped In for lunch today around 12:30. The facility is lovely, as are the grounds. There's a market with local offerings, everything from grass-fed and pasture raised meats, to local produce and house made pastry. I ordered the strawberry spinach salad with herb and lemon grilled chicken. The chicken in my salad was so dry and overcooked that I could barely swallow it. Thankfully they offered to replace it. It wasn't as dry but it was lacking any seasoning, let alone the flavors of lemon or herbs. There wasn't much flavor in the vinaigrette either, it was under seasoned and dull, with no real flavor profile. The only thing worth mentioning about the salad was the strawberries. My husband had the same salad and was equally underwhelmed. Two salads $37. We went inside the store to look around. In our home we only eat grass-fed, grass finished beef and pastured, organic chicken. At Kroger can buy Marksberry Farm (Lancaster, KY) ground beef for $8 a pound, and pastured organic chicken from Publix for $9 a pound. So when a HM employee was bragging that the chicken was half off at $15 a pound I was shocked. (Do they ever sell any at full price?!) I went to look at the grass-fed grass-finished beef and immediately put it back because a strip steak was $60 a pound! With prices like that all it does is reinforce the idea that in order to be healthy you have to be rich. I get that there is a cost for local food sources, and store fronts aren't cheap. Workers also need to be paid a fair wage. But come on... Can't we meet in the middle? A container of 7 medium strawberries was $5.50, 8 hamburger buns $9... So after learning their food prices and eating some underwhelming salads we won't be back. Bummer, because like I said, we wanted to love it. We did enjoy talking to the people who worked with the perennials. They were very knowledgeable...
