META — Restaurant in Louisville

Went here with a few of my friends on a Saturday night. We went at 3:15am, but it was open until 4. We’re not from around here so we wanted to have the true “Louisville night out” and stay out until 4. I get it, it was late, but the bartender was extremely rude. When getting our orders, he said he couldn’t make my drink because it was out. This was our conversation: We asked him, “okay so what is out?” He said “the blanco”. We asked him, “well can you substitute it out for another tequila?” “No it won’t be the same.” “Okay, so what’s a similar drink to that?” And then he said some other drink that I can’t remember the name of and proceeded to angrily asked what else we wanted. Then he looked at us and said “yeah and this is last call.” Well, obviously it is..........if you can’t tell, he was so short and extremely unfriendly to us. It really put a damper on the mood. I’m sorry, but if you’re a bartender working at a bar that’s open until 4, you should probably expect stragglers to come in. And we get it! We’re a part of the industry as well, but we have never made our customers feel unwelcome even if they did come in a few minutes before close. I love META, and it is HANDS DOWN the best bar in Louisville. In terms of offerings and ambiance, there is no better of a bar to visit than META, and the prices are more than reasonable for being in a saturated area. My only criticism is that I do not always feel welcome. While I do understand that as a guest, I should not determine how the bartenders interact with guests, it feels often times that they are less than happy to serve the less-common classics and sometimes I leave feeling that the experience would have been better if I had been served with slightly more enthusiasm. Generally, cocktail culture is the product of consumers who are interested in the overarching cannon of cocktails and their history, and for me, META misses this mark by not promoting customers to feel free to ask for what they want. Meta Bar owner asks Governor via Twitter to shut all Kentucky bars down, because Meta staff can’t control what happens in their own bar. So a basically unheard of bar in Downtown Louisville (Easily the least safe place to have a drink in the State of Kentucky), asks Governor to shut all bars down in the state, because their staff can’t handle asking people to wear masks.
