When I ran pizza shops in the past, I had drilled it into the heads of my front counter people “Make eye-contact and greet the customer” — otherwise you get what I get every time I walk in to this store: standing at the counter with 5 people standing there and no one says anything until you prompt them.
The food is great, don’t get me wrong. Nothing wrong in that department, but for all the hype of the app telling me what’s going on with my order and how soon it is going to be ready, it just isn’t so. This place was staffed for heavy business - two line cooks, a dough-stretcher, one on the cut-table, 2 drivers and 2 front counter — and no one moving with any sense of urgency. My pizza was out 6-minutes late according ALL of the screens around the store. For as quiet as the store was at that time it’s clear that no one on-shift was really interested in hitting the numbers. Low hanging fruit, guys!
The wait DID give me time to listen to store gossip as the manager and a driver talked all the way across the work area about getting help from North Store for closing some night and how useless it would be because so-and-so only complains and how I’m not going to pay $60 to have someone come and close who only complains so I’d rather close alone. That’s a whole conversation that didn’t need to be heard by ANYONE!
Look. I’m not upset. My food was given to me without un-due delay — just not when all the high-tech pizza-promise gear said it would be. There was no reason for that except no one really seemed to care. That’s a whole lot of money that went into JIT production systems to be ignored by a whole lot of people on the clock. This store is probably not hitting it’s completion time numbers and I can tell you why.
There isn’t a force-field between the work area and the customer area - train your people to engage the customers. This is a culture problem for the store which means it’s a Leadership problem. One of the drivers returning from a delivery spotted me standing at the counter, waiting, and he engaged me right away. That was good to see. Kudos to him. Looks like he is an exception to the store culture.
So, plus 5 on food quality! Minus 2 for a failure to keep simple promises and to train your people to care about customers...
Read moreTo make matters even worse, I called to let the manager know my kids and I were sick and he said he couldn't return the money but could offer us more food. I said I would call corporate because something must've been contaminated in order for all of us to get sick about 1-1.5 hours after eating it. Wanted to argue about how it wasn't his doing. Well maybe not on purpose but I've worked at food places and know that storage of veggies etc can lead to contamination if not stored properly. Food looked and tasted good quality but hey we didn't get ourselves instantly sick after paying for the food. Have some empathy for a family that is super sick after eating your food instead of being rude acting like it's our fault. Thanks Josh. It's not about the refund. I have money but what I won't do is pay to get my kids and I sick!! I could've been like some of these people and threaten to sue. You food places need to do better ensuring food safety to prevent food poisoning! To could pay me $500 to make it better but at the end of the day, we're still sick from eating there. Hope you figure out what caused it instead of acting like we walked in like...
Read moreOrdered one pepperoni pizza for pickup was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. Got there after 30 minutes, not ready, no ETA and they charged a card on file without even asking (it was not the correct card, it was a business card I'd used previously for a business lunch). After waiting another 15 minutes (I was late for a dinner meeting and picking pizza up for my kids) asked again on ETA. Pizza was still in prep stage. Would be ready in 1-5 minutes supposedly.
Asked if I could just pay the difference between the carry out and delivery cost because I needed to leave and was told no.
While there, I watched a girl with waist length hair in pig tails that came down her front prepare food. Her hair was constantly rubbing on the food as she was preparing it. At one point she went to get raw chicken wings out and she leaned over the pan several times which caused her hair to completely drag all over the wings and then she went back to pizzas and dragged her hair all over those.
I've never been so disgusted and I'm pretty sure that's a major health code violation.
Needless to say, I just left without the pizza. Will never...
