Might be the worst sushi I've had in NoCo. The comments about "landlocked states" misunderstand that all fish used in sushi is deep frozen to kill parasites and will not be fresh caught from the nearby harbor so that's a sad excuse on quality. It's just whether the restaurant wants to order in quality fish, which will be more costly, or pad the bottom line.
The fish was sitting out behind the counter unwrapped and luke warm for the entire hour we were there. Every other sushi restaurant will have the plastic wrap over the top of them, pull it back and slice off what they need, then place it back and wrap it up again. It's also usually sitting on ice or a chiller. The sushi when served, and none of these were baked or seared, was luke warm. No coldness to it at all. Everything was extremely bland, the "spicy" tuna had absolutely zero spice, the only good thing about any of it was the dry ice in the pot for presentation. For $18 a roll on average it makes it so much worse when the $5 rolls at grocery stores are better tasting.
Nearly $30 for a bento box that consists of less food and of a poorer quality than Panda Express is really disappointing. Small salad with an abundance of dressing, the worst egg drop soup I've ever had, mediocre at best sesame chicken with zero sesame to be found, and teriyaki chicken that was extremely chewy.
The place was also not busy at all with 3 hosts waiting about and they couldn't bother to check up on us more than once or bring the check by until we had been done...
Read moreI initially tried eating at this place because as a delivery driver of all the sushi places in loveland and colorado, this place I deliver for most frequently. When you walk in you can hear piano music playing including piano covers of popular songs from artists such as imagine dragons and avicii along with true classics such as Canon in D. I brought my father along, I ordered the karaage chicken, (a form of Japanese fried chicken that I've found to be difficult to find in the states,) and my father ordered a flight of 3 salmon avocado rolls, which turned out to be approximately 27 pieces of sushi, (and the waitress came out with two sets of sushi dishes, completely unsuprised by our shock at the volume of sushi, or that we would probably end up sharing the sushi due to the sheer volume. Must happen a lot.) While we waited, we noticed the number of awards for best sushi on the wall. We were surprised not just by the quality of the sushi itself, but also the Wasabi, fresh ginger, and miso soup, since all of that high of quality can be rather difficult to find around here. (And this is coming from a guy whose first taste of sushi was in uptown Osaka! And was explicitly warned he was being spoiled!) Overall I would say their awards are...
Read moreIf you were to drive off the freeway, go to a strip mall, and see a random sushi place in northern colorado, how good do you think it would be?
If you are the forever optimist you would enter telling yourself you found some hole in the wall that bill become your new go to place. You won't write a review about it cause youndont want it to be instagrammed to death and want your little secret to stay in your front pocket. But more likely- staistically your secret and its sushi would be medicore - maybe even worse- and when you got the bill would be asking yourself, "why did I think this was a good idea?" That pretty much sums up Kobe sushi: a Japanese restaurant masking as a Chinese Asian all in one stop with a fish tank, random Asian decor, with really average bland flavors... think sushi but stuff you got at MCR. Surprisingly a fair amount of people go there? Maybe they were like me and hoped food would be different than the free stuff at the hospital.
I spent 50 bucks for sushi and tempura i could have bought at sprouts or whole foods - and that is not saying much if you like sushi. Just save yourself the time and go to in and...
