With my girlfriend having a busy morning I set out to find her something easy to eat and good. I had driven by Tata’s numerous times after recently moving to the area and it came to mind when thinking of places. The exterior and interior don’t do the food justice and might drive some people away but I pressed through and rolled up to the drive through (which was very convenient for them to have). I was greeted quickly on the box ordered my food without problem even with substituting meats out for other ones with absolutely no problem. The employee at the window wasn’t exactly enthusiastic but he did his job without much issue. The food took a bit to come out but it was due to it being home made rather than some heat up burrito from Taco Bell. When I got home we ripped into the burritos and that’s when everything hit.
The food is amazing. The shredded beef breakfast burrito I got was world changing perfect flavor and juiciness. My girlfriend’s chorizo satisfied any and all doubts.
The hot sauce was defiantly home made but I little weak in my opinion. The red has nice heat but just a smoky flavor nothing else. The green has a good tomatillo flavor but nothing else comes through. Some vinegar in both and maybe adobo peppers in the red would do very well for the sauces.
TLDR: Pretty good service (a little slow), decor is a bit old and run down, THE FOOD IS TO DIE FOR, and the sauces are...
Read moreIt's obviously a hole in the wall little Mexican Restaurant, a one-off with people who really love being there and working there, and limited resources but a very large menu. Usually at these places it's great to stick with the basics or the Special of the Day.
I went with the Special of the Day, a straight-forward Carne Asada street taco, and I was very very pleased with it, as they really paid good attention to all the details of it. The carne was hot and crisped on the edges, the onions and cilantro were freshly cut, and best of all the outside corn tortillas were freshly griddled until they were crisp. The inside tortillas were soft and obviously freshly made, and it was a delicious example of what a street taco should be. Made fast, hot, and out of the best they had. The little salsa bar was nice, and it was good to have the choices.
My husband got the chili rellenos, and really enjoyed them, they were lightly breaded, were good and spicy, and they were hot through with melted cheese, crisp outsides, and the beans and rice sides were good and hot. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and had no brown edges or limp dry edges.
It's not super clean, but clean enough for a fast food hole in the wall, and the servers were friendly when we were enthusiastic, and they'd be able to tell you what was fresh or good...
Read moreI was disappointed. Very, very disappointed. Seriously, who BOILS their meat? Even Taco Bell does a better job making their meat more appetizing! I order the Carne Asada Burrito, and my girlfriend ordered the Supreme Burrito. For me, it smelled like Campbell's Chunky beef soup in a thin tortilla, but the meat was, I swear, boiled roast. The fat hadn't been trimmed, there was gristle, but you couldn't tell because it was a big, dripping, mushy mess. And the cilantro! DEAR GOD THE CILANTRO! It's been over an hour and I can STILL taste cilantro, it was overpowering! And the onions, there were so many onions! For my girlfriend's 'supreme' burrito, she couldn't tell if it was chicken, or pork. How sad is it when you can't differentiate what meat is in your burrito? My ONE compliment is that the service was fast and friendly. They have good people there who smile and get your order quickly. But the food is cheap, it's disgusting, and it's overpriced for the BELOW sub-par quality. Eat somewhere else. Seriously. Just walk out the door and go to Taco Bell...they are...
