We called ahead because we needed to arrive late, ten til 9. They were kind over the phone and welcoming when we came in. There were plenty of people there when we got there and no one seemed in a rush to close. So that was awesome!
We ordered our steak entrees. One Kansas Strip (Pittsburgh rare), one 6oz sirloin(medium), one tip platter (med rare). All the meat came over cooked. Tips are tough not to overcook so I didn't send that back-we didn't send anything back, but it was disappointing, but I didn't have the heart to make the chef redo tips. They aren't worth it and I was there for my husband anyway. He wanted and specifically asked for a cool, red center. No dice. Ended up coming out medium and the platter they put it on remained so hot throughout the meal that he ended up with a steak well done, sliced at an odd angle so that the bone was the thickest Part.
The place was super clean. I'll put up with anything to eat in a friendly and clean place and this place was great for that. The quality of the fresh salad bar was good and the French Onion Soup was ok, but the desserts were the worst.
I remember Hoss's from when I was a kid being amazing for their bread and soup bar. I won't go to Hoss's again, I'm sure the rest of the places will close down soon anyway with such poor quality. Bummer. Staff was excellent and super hard-working. Friendly and clean atmosphere. Food was a massive disappointment. Hoss's has taken many of their steaks off the menu and whittled everything down to something worse than Golden Corral. (Do not ask me how I know about that...
Read moreI usually love Hoss's, but we had a terrible server this time, Kiana. There was a line out the door and it took 18 minutes and asking twice to get my check. When it did come, she had charged my 10 year old daughter $1.29 for "Lemon Water". A lemon water that she drank a third of the way through the meal, and then she drank all of my water and not once offered to fill either of our glasses. When she finally brought the check, I asked her about the charge, stating that I had never seen this charge before and that we are regular customers. Her response was disgusting..." She wrinkled up her face and said, "Yeah, So" while shrugging her shoulders and putting up her nose. Yeah, So...she got a $1.29 tip as a lesson in customer service. I was content to leave it at that, because I just wanted to be on my way home and for some of the people waiting to get a table. BUT I used to work in management and I know that I would want to know if one of my employees sucked. So, Hoss's in Williamsport, PA...Kiana has terrible customer service, is a sub par waitress, and maybe you should consider replacing her with one of the lovely hostesses who would treat their waitress spot like they don't want to lose it. Don't expect to see us...
Read moreServer was excellent, unfortunately, the manager on duty seemed to have dropped the ball tonight. Saw her wandering around not doing very much but just being seen. Meanwhile, we waited twenty minutes for Garlic bread to appear at the salad bar area, despite asking two members of staff if some could be brought out. Saw three staff at the salad bar, ostensibly replenishing the items, which failed to explain why they ran out of pickles, tomatoes, and other salad bar items. Stacked plates still had warm water on them, apparently straight from the dishwasher - pity that warm moist areas are a breeding ground for bacteria - which put partaking of the salad bar much less attractive. The restaurant wasn't even that bust tonight, compared to previous visits. We left feeling rather cheated and unimpressed by our 'dining experience'. More attention needs to0 be given to replenishing the salad bar, ensuring an adequate supply of items and that food has not been mixed (cross-contaminated?) by other items due to careless and uncaring patrons. It may help if tonight's manager went back to being a server again to refresh her perception of what the manager's role is. All in all, a very poor show. Let's hope it will get better in the...
