When I come to a Texas Roadhouse there are a few things I can generally count on, good food, great service and a fun upbeat atmosphere. It was a very busy Saturday night. We were greeted by McKenzie at the front who took our name and had us seated us quickly. Our server Alyssa was awesome, she took our orders and brought our drinks and our food was very good. Our table was situated fairly close to the kitchen so it was a busy thoroughfare. All was going well until we pretty quickly noticed or rather overheard “Server Matt” (as he referred to himself). He was serving the couple behind us. We learned several things about Matt, I mean besides the obvious that he did not care about being in the way of everyone going into and out of the kitchen, restrooms. Or that his colleagues were wizzing by him as he talked and talked and talked; about his child, his upcoming vacation, his sub par camera lenses and other rather personal things. I wish I could have not heard all of this, but unbothered Matt was a loud talker. The poor couple he was “serving”, I use that word lightly as every dish I saw him remove from the table simply went onto another table waiting to be cleared (don’t worry Matt a coworker cleared it for you)and I never saw him refresh a drink or tend to another table. The poor woman was trapped in the booth and had to ask him to let her out so she could use the ladies room, which he did. I thought good a break, a little peace and quiet, but no way he leaned in and continued talking to the man. Twice while we were there, we saw managers speak to him, both times he was dismissive and went straight back to his one sided conversation. We wondered why the management didn’t do anything as clearly he was not helping anyone, rather he was taking up space, several times watched co-workers nearly run into him as he was in the way, cause they were busy! Let me tell you Alyssa worked 4 tables all the while he just droned on, unbothered and unaware that his teammates were breaking a sweat. At first this was kinda funny, we tried to ignore him, but it became very irritating after about 45 minutes of this mess. I actually felt sorry for the young couple because he talked to them the whole time (ok 95%) of the time we were there, when they left we saw they had a very small baby and I felt worse, new parents out for a meal and this guy would not leave them alone. He continued talking about them to coworkers after they left. Wow it was a lot. I could not ding the restaurant for one person who was clueless, but felt it was important to mention here. Staff should always know, people are watching and listening, and managers, those people who are rockstars like McKenzie and Alyssa deserve better from you than to allow one single person to just use up the oxygen not...
Read moreOur waitress, Lexi, was absolutely the best. She was fast, courteous, and quick to notice if something was missing when brought to our table. We will definitely be back to sit in her section!!!!
EDITED: The seating arrangements get absolutely ZERO stars for this posts, but we stand by the 5 stars for Lexi, she was awesome.
I wanted to edit my post to include my disappointment about our seating arrangements. When we first got seated at our table which was located in between two booths, we had no issue. The restaurant was busy and families were seated on both sides of us, no problem. When the booth cleared to our left, the hostess came and added an extender to the booth and they proceeded to sit 12 people in the booth next to us. You read that right - I said 12. There were so many people sitting at that the table that we were no longer separated by any space at all and the gentleman next to my son was sitting in the small opening between our tables. He literally was holding his bowl of salad in his hands to eat. Since we were no longer distanced due to very poor seating arrangements and there was no one to our right, my son and I moved to the right of our table and offered him the corner of our table to put...
Read moreI would have loved to give this location a 5. We had a party of 9 & they accommodated us well. The service was top notch with just one hiccup (wish I had gotten her name). Everyone's food looked & tasted great. My only issue was the chicken fried sirloin I ordered. Anywhere I go the CFS is thick & huge. Anywhere but here. Here, however, I was super disappointed. Especially being it was my first time at this location in Lufkin. I could not taste the sirloin because it was basically non-existent. It was a less than a 1/4 inch thick sliver of meat. All I could taste was the batter. I can pay the same price $15.99 anywhere else & leave happy. I left here happy because I was with my family (my son & daughter in particular all the way from CA) & they were happy. My food was extremely subpar. I didn't really complain because that's not what I do when it was so busy. So I paid the $250 + bill & told myself I won't be back for a CFS or probably anything else for that matter. I included the fork in the pic for scale. Not sure if this should have went out the window. I wouldn't...
