EDIT Thank you for both responding initially and then following up! Just exemplifies my initial view about your quality of service was, and continues to be, correct. We have since returned several times (including to kick off our wedding weekend almost 2 years ago) and have made it one of our regular stops while in the area. I'm so happy that this place is doing well, it's a really great addition to Luray. Excited to hear about the crowlers, that's a great development!
Original Review: My fiance and I stopped by to kick off a weekend of researching area activities for our upcoming wedding in Luray. I stumbled on to their blog several months ago, so I felt a bit like a stalker, and was really happy we were able to give it a try. We went straight down the line and did a flight of each beer on tap: porter, porter on nitro, IPA, brown ale, cream ale, and red ale. They were all pretty good, I think our favorites were the porter and red ale. The brown ale was fine (and normally my favorite), but I just tend to prefer roasty-er flavors in a brown ale, this was more malty. The IPA was also good, flavorful but not overly hoppy.
Service was also great. Everyone there was super friendly, we sat outside to enjoy the weather and people trickled out to ask how things were and chat. There was some confusion over how to purchase a growler (we forgot ours), but long after we'd dropped it the bartender found us to tell what he'd learned (he'd been asking around the entire time). We wound up passing, as the growler itself was a bit pricey at $12 just for the glass (plus $16 for a fill) and we already have way too many growlers at home. That said, we really appreciated him making the effort to find out, even after we'd forgotten about it.
Glad that they're opening up, and look forward to stopping by on future trips (or perhaps even during our...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter relocating from the Reston/Herndon, VA, area, where I had access to about 8 great breweries, it's a bit of a shock to move to a town with only one craft brewery---but Hawksbill Brewing helps fill the gap. It's the only place in town where you can camp out for hours to watch a game and not feel pressured to order food. There is no working kitchen here but a food truck offering Mexican fare is typically here Monday through Saturday (not on Sunday though). The beer is great - something for nearly everyone, from porters and stouts to IPAs to ales. Missing Sours and Goses* so if you're a fan of those styles you may have to try something else. They also have a N/A root beer for the DD in your group. The ladies behind the bar (there may be a male server too but I have not encountered one) are small town friendly and will happily recommend restaurants where you can pick up food, or hidden gems in town for the tourists.
*It is possible they have Sours and Goses during the year as their beer menu changes often. But their mainstays appear to be their brown ale, cream ale, at least one IPA, a porter, and a stout. The Christmas Mouse is a very high ABV (over 10%) but it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife and I were visiting Luray for a weekend getaway when we found this place. All I can say is they are awesome! Started off with a flight of their beers and everything was great. I like a lot of different style of beers but they had everything from stouts, browns, reds, IPA and it was all great. I settled on a coffee stout for the evening that was fantastic. The people inside sitting at the bar were friendly and talkative and one of the owners spoke with us several times throughout the night. We even saw him in a local coffee shop the next morning. If you are out in Luray and want to grab a drink definitely stop by this place, I would even recommend folks travel off the "beaten path" to give these folks a shot. I know I will...
