After years of excellent orders Capri has lost it. We ordered dinner for 6 tonight (Sunday Aug 2, 2021), $232.11 which is no small expense. The lettuce in the salads was about 30% bad which was disgusting. The cod we ordered was so over cooked it was beyond rubber, it was just awful and had to be thrown away entirely. My eldest son is a culinary major and he thinks they used frozen cod, did not defrost it properly, and then (over)cooked it. The pork chops were also WAY over cooked, terribly, terribly dry. The artichokes were not breaded, there were about 6 artichoke quarters buried in a mountain of breading?!?! Totally gross. We won’t be ordering from here anymore which is a pity because it used to be a family favorite. I do not recommend this restaurant at all anymore. Find a different Italian restaurant!
Updated on Monday, August 2, 2021. The owner's nephew, Philip, made a point to reach out after his uncle read the above review. While the above review of yesterday's meal is what it is, it says something positive about them that they reached out personally. I hope what it says is that they care about the quality of their food still, and not just about bad reviews on Google. They have called me twice now to make sure I edit this review. I have changed it from 1 to 3 stars accordingly. The meal was still terrible.
Philip expressed to me today that he has checked with the kitchen staff on all of our meal issues and assured me that this was an isolated incident that will not be repeated. He communicated they would credit us for the fish we could not even eat because it was so bad, $25.95 They also offered a discount on our next order. I am honestly hesitant to order from here again due to the fact that it wasn't simply 1 dish that was inedible, all but one of the meals received had major issues plus sending 6 side salads, 2 of which contained lettuce that was literally rotten, is just a sign of poor restaurant quality control. My chef son has worked at 3 restaurants, and currently works at the 3rd, and attests to this. His restaurant has a quality control process to prevent simple things like making sure customers do not get rotten lettuce.
The 2 orders of Pork Chop Milanese which are normally excellent and my (grown) sons crave this dish, were so dry (overcooked) you had the excellent flavor of the sauce + arugula but the meat was like leather.
The Pasta Carbonara, which I would previously have described as one of the best we have ever eaten anywhere, was dry and not creamy - don't know what happened there.
The Gnocchi Quattro Formaggi that my elderly father loves was way too salty according to him and this from a man who I think puts WAY too much salt on his food as it is.
The Artichoke Toscana we had never ordered before so maybe it comes this way and it is my fault for choosing it vs. theirs. I expected "artichoke hearts baked with seasoned bread crumbs and parmesan cheese in a light red sauce". But it was a bowl filled with heavy breading with some artichokes buried inside and some red color on the edges of the dish indicating the light red sauce I believe. I've included pictures of the dish after we picked out the few artichokes. If you love seasoned breading then you may really like this dish.
In complete fairness the Veal: Vitello Vesuvio con Patate was excellent as were the desserts. We enjoyed the Tiramisu, cannoli and cheesecake. They were very fresh and delicious, especially the Tiramisu and cannoli.
This is an honest review of the meal we had yesterday. While I do truly appreciate them reaching out and genuinely thank them for crediting the fish dish, the meal was what it was. Perhaps the only way to have rectified it would have been to either send a completely fresh meal without the above issues to show that it was, in fact, a fluke, or reimburse us for the meal itself.
If we decide to order again & take them up on the discount offered I will update this review accordingly. I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt and try again if my family...
Read moreNot what it used to be. We ordered the veal parmigiana which was good. But the pasta carbonara with chicken we ordered, and paid extra for was not good. The chicken tasted frozen but also had a slight pink color, so I’m not even sure which method it was cooked, regardless it wasn’t a pleasant bite. The sauce was just a thick Alfredo, it tasted so doughy and there was way too much on the pasta. There was no pancetta; and overall tasted nothing close to carbonara. We also got two side salads and the cucumbers were not of good quality. It’s disappointing to pay so much for low quality. This really was yucky, we’ve been ordering for years from here, but it’s just not the same quality and is a real shame.
Update: After this review Phillip, the owners nephew reached out. I really felt good that this family establishment cared enough to make things right. I said that I wanted to keep supporting this place and he offered to send me a different meal to my house (5 minutes away). This was at 8:49PM. At 10:10 I give Phillip a call asking if the delivery was still coming. He checks with the staff and told me the driver said he left it on my front door. I have a Bernese mountain dog and a boxer who are quite loud when anyone comes near the house. I assure you the food was never on my door step. I was told I could get it tomorrow or a credit, as it is late. I really really tried to be understanding tonight, as I am a local and long time customer; but now I would just like them to make it right by refunding my...
Read moreUPDATE (11/18/2019): As you can see from below, the owner went totally out of his way to get in touch with me to make the experience I had right by offering discounts, inviting us back, and apologizing - not only here on this review but on Facebook as well. I failed to mention that my girlfriend's panini was great, so I am adjusting my review to be based upon her sandwich and I will give another update after I return to try their food again. There aren't many businesses that actually care about their customers these days but for those that go out of their way to accommodate, they are always deserving of a second chance.
11/03/2019 visit: Got a chicken sandwich, was asked if I needed utensils and I said yes and asked for red sauce with no mayo. When I got to my destination with the food I opened it and there were no utensils napkins or red sauce and I paid for the red sauce. The place I took the food to did not have any utensils or napkins either. Couldn't tell you how good their red sauce is but really wanted to try it. Needless to say a chicken sandwich on a big dry bun with nothing on it is impossible to eat. Threw out the bread in an attempt to choke down the dry chicken but was only able to eat about half. Surprised at this level of service because this place was recommended to me. Didn't bother calling back because I didn't want to get anybody in trouble for doing such a terrible job ensuring that my food was prepared...
