Within the last 6 months or so, I was going to this Country Oven location, even though I live much closer to another location. I finally found a place where they made a lamb shank that I really enjoyed. I even spoke to the owner on a couple of occasions and expressed how happy I was coming there. By the way, the lamb shank is a Thursday special at this location but is on the menu daily at another Country Oven location. I would specifically go to Madison Heights for this, even though as I said previously, I live very close to another Country Oven. About 3 weeks ago I went there and asked one of the hostesses if a customer could possibly purchase an extra shank only. She did not know the answer so she went over and talked to the owner who was talking with several customers and employees. I noticed that the reaction to this question seemed inappropriate to me because the entire group talking together turned around and looked at me while the waitress pointed in my direction. She came back and told me that there would be a $1 reduction in the price. I was wondering what or why I had to be checked out by this entire group. Based on the reaction and the price that was given to me, this restaurant has lost me as a customer. What difference does it make if I asked the question or if someone else asked the question? Are there different prices for different people? That question continues to run through my mind! Is there a different price based on color, religion, ethnicity, etc? Whenever I went to this restaurant I spent a minimum of $30 to $35!! Based on the way this was handled I feel that he may have been trying to get more money out of me than many of his other customers. So all I can say is, was it really worth it to lose a customer because of the action by the owner? There are other restaurants that I will be more than happy to check out and utilize in the future. Read moreFirst it's a very large family restaurant that serves more than just "American" food. They also have Mediterranean dishes too. Gyros, mossuaka kabobs etc... They have some of the best Fish and Chips around. Lamb shanks are delicious, but they only have them on one day per week 😖 Same with their yummy short ribs too. All of the daily specials are attached inside of their menus. Those specials can be ordered ala carte or a complete dinner which is soup, salad entree and dessert which is a choice of jello, ice cream or my favorite rice pudding. Their portions are huge which for myself means 2 take away items my unfinished entree and the dessert for later. The servers are friendly, you'll never usually ever have an empty coffee cup or soda. They are that attentive to their guests. They even still have dum-dum lollipops for the kids (adults) on their way home. I most definitely know this place because...
I use to go here when I was the kid with my family. Then I would come for lunch or breakfast with friends as I became older. Then we use to come here with sometimes 3 generations of family. There's not that many true family restaurants that are not some chain restaurant. The food is gourmet, but it's cozy feel good food. Their sausage gravy is good, but not as good as my...
Read moreIt’s not the food, which is pretty good. It’s the staff. We had an enjoyable meal. The bill arrived. I had asked for a senior discount, the waitress obliged. However, the bill, which was wet, and marked up on the back and front, upside down in places, and was difficult to decipher. Taking said Bill to the cashier, I simply said, I don’t know which price to pay (several amounts were listed). “I have to track down the waitress” she gurgled. Don’t know what happened but the she returned, mad, flustered, threw the bill down and said “I can’t take this” stormed off, and left some bewildered assistant to take my cash. The waitress flew by and cackled at me “you gotta pay state tax, y'know”. Yes, I do know and that wasn’t the problem. If the first cashier has the patience to get all those little stones on her nails, she should have more patience for her job. I felt somehow, I made the trouble just asking what the total was. Not going back, they don’t need my business, decent food or not. Treat the customers with some respect...
