Chin up 麦屯小吃 — Restaurant in Madison

Discovered this place today and was very excited to try it out after looking over the menu. There’s a ton of authentic Chinese street food options at very affordable prices, and we ordered a variety to sample. Portions were large, flavors were prominent, and everything was served up quickly. They also offered complimentary soup which was a bonus. There were six of us and we all walked away absolutely stuffed and very content.

The folks working there, which I assume to be the owners, were also very friendly and attentive throughout our visit. The restaurant itself gave off a cozy and inviting vibe which was nice. Great customer service with a friendly owner, he makes you feel welcomed and seems quite down to earth. The Tianjin-style Jian-bing is made nice and fresh right in front of you, but some of the items on the menu are less appetizing. This is one of those restaurants where you need to know what to order and what not to order. The main change they might consider, and is why I could not give 5 stars, is adding some music, and/or separating the kitchen and dining area better. I would prefer to not see my meal being pulled from the fridge, packaging pulled apart and then heated in the microwave. No problems with frozen food and using microwaves, just would have been nice to not know that’s how my meal...

Went two separate times and both time food is plentiful and delicious. The owner is very welcoming and likes to explain the dishes and the ingredients. Dumplings are slightly different than what you may expect (see photo). They also have free soup that you can eat with your meal. Wonton noodles has a clear light broth, very pleasant. Chongqing noodle soup is spicy but it's the perfect level for me. Note that the chongqing noodle contains peanuts. I look forward to coming back and trying their entire menu eventually! The chinese pizza (as the owner called it) was not my favorite when compared to everything else but my boyfriend enjoyed it. It would be a great snack if you're hungry...
