I grew up in the area and am back for a week for a wedding. After spending the day with an old friend, I convinced him to go out. This was the closest spot to him that was reportedly open until 1. I thought it looked good so we ubered here around 11:30.
Upon walking in, the bar was empty except for two other groups of 2 and 4. They were nearing middle age and it seemed like that was the target demographic of this establishment based on the decor. My friend and I sat by the door and ordered a round from the bartender, whose name was Beata according to my receipt. One of the other patrons, visibly drunk, started yelling because he was accused of not paying his tab. It was a quiet, empty bar, and I could hear it all.
About 5 minutes after I had ordered my drink, Beata comes and lets me and my friend know that they would be closing in less than an hour (which was a good bit earlier than the alleged 1:00 closing time). So I asked for another drink and she let me know that I can only have one at a time. I then finished my cosmo relatively quickly and then ordered a margarita.
What happened next truly has never happened to me before. When I ordered my margarita and she saw my empty glass, she asked me, "Are you trying to get drunk quickly? You're drinking too fast." As a bartender and bar manager myself, I would never stand for a bartender to be so blatantly rude to a patron. Especially in a bar as empty as it was, you want to build relationships, not burn bridges and ensure they're not only never coming back but also takes to Yelp and Google afterwards. It's funny that she was worried about the sober person getting too drunk when she just had a disheveled patron yelling and being hostile. I'm sure he didn't show up that drunk.
It truly puzzled me, and we made sure to leave as soon as possible after that. My friend and I both tend bars and agreed we would never ask questions like that so directly and rudely. I wonder if she asks those same questions to anyone ordering a round of shots.
The bar was also extremely bright and the decor was strange. The playing of country music also didn't fit the vibe of the bar. Below average cosmo with wrong garnish, adequate margarita served in the wrong glass.

Read moreAs a person who has been in the industry for 25-plus years. I have never experienced such a rude, disrespectful bartender in my life. You can wait forever for a drink. So I had to walk to the other end to get one. Tenders know how to handle a busy bar not stay at one end. Someone was buying drinks and one person ordered a soda. They had had a few cocktails and were done and wanted a soda....4 times she said u want a high noon, and 4 times friend said no a Sprite. Weirdest thing ever. Was she pushing drinks to ring a higher tab for the person paying or too bothered to pour a soda. I ordered an uber at the end of the night and my phone died after I ordered it and wasn't sure if it went thru. I panicked cause I wanted to get home. Went back in and I explained my situation and asked her to use a charger. SHE snapped back like I was asking too much.. and said I don't have one, turned and walked away. I could see one by the register. Too busy closing up and don't give a hoot. Woman to woman and as a bartender we or at least I would be concerned for my customer.. offer to call a cab or ask the regulars if they had one. I have been here before and she always has a bad disposition and seems miserable and irritated. You should not be working there. If u hate your job quit. You really know how to put a damper on a night. This was my final straw... I know it's a local place and a lot of regulars have commented that they just deal with her because of how convenient this bar is for them. That is pretty sad... I will do my best to avoid this place.. If she is working... Must be related to someone still work...

I had the opportunity to visit Miner Street Tavern in Des Plaines, IL, back in October 2024, and I must say it was a pretty pleasant experience. After a disappointing outing at a nearby restaurant, I was looking for a place to unwind and enjoy a drink, and Miner Street Tavern fit the bill perfectly.
The atmosphere of the tavern was inviting and laid-back, making it an ideal spot to relax after a long night. The bartender was very cool and personable, which added to the positive vibe of the place. I appreciated the attentive service; my drink was served promptly, and the bartender checked in regularly to ensure I had everything I needed.
One of the standout aspects of Miner Street Tavern is its cleanliness. The establishment was well-maintained, which made the experience that much more enjoyable. It's always a plus to find a place that takes pride in keeping their space tidy and welcoming.
Another highlight is the extended hours of operation, especially on weekends. The tavern is open Thursday through Saturday until 4 AM, which I think is fantastic for those looking for a late-night venue. Itâs great to have a reliable option to go to when the night is still young and you want to keep the fun going.
Overall, I wouldnât hesitate to return to Miner Street Tavern. Whether itâs for a late-night drink or just to hang out with friends, the friendly atmosphere and great service make it a solid choice. If you're in the area and looking for a fun place to relax, I highly recommend...
