Physically, it's a nice venue. They did a great job on renovations, the sound was clear, and the speakeasy upstairs is adorable. We absolutely enjoyed the performance. I probably will go back to this theater.
That being said, security was slightly ridiculous (especially the man with the Napoleon complex who looks like he fell out of an episode of HBO's The Sopranos). I'm not sure why they were not scanning barcodes on the tickets, but that practice could have prevented this interaction. When my friend and I arrived to the venue, we expected to purchase tickets at the box office. We were told the show was sold out - no problem. Like many concert goers, we understood there would be others arriving with extra tickets they weren't using. We stood outside for over half an hour with our finger up to indicate we were looking to purchase a ticket. Eventually a couple approached us with an extra pair of seats next to them - we accepted, I offered to buy them a drink, we all entered together. Immediately after getting in line for beverages, we were approached by Security accusing us of sneaking in and telling us we have to purchase standing room only tickets or be escorted out. If standing room only had been offered in the beginning, your venue would have seen more money because we would have bought them and waited inside, enjoying pizza and a beer, instead of standing outside in the cold. I explained the situation to him, and he kept countering with comments about how he was going to check on some things and then throw us out (like, "I'm going to pull up the name on this order and when it's not your names, we'll escort you out"). After a little bit of back and forth he whipped his phone out to take a picture of my ticket and basically said he'd see us down at our seats to escort us out come show time. From our perspective, it would have been very easy to show they were legitimate, unscanned tickets IF you had taken the time to scan the barcodes. I do recognize that you allow patrons to leave and reenter, maybe devise a better system so you don't accuse patrons of...
Read moreI had the most incredible time at the Des Plaines Theater last night! Watching The Guess Who with my closest friends and family turned out to be an absolute blast. The intimate size of the theater created an inviting atmosphere, making the experience all the more enjoyable.
The balcony seats were a game-changer - ample leg room made it easy to get lost in the music without any discomfort. And can we talk about the lineup of shows they have in store for the rest of the year? It's a treasure trove for entertainment enthusiasts!
One of the standout features for me was the free parking available in the garage. A convenient touch that really made the evening hassle-free. The decor is a delightful trip down memory lane, with a vintage cash register on the second floor that adds a unique charm.
But here's the real hidden gem: a secret speakeasy tucked away in the corner of the second floor. We gave the usher a special "password" and a bookshelf slid open, revealing a sophisticated hideaway. It felt like stepping back in time.
I can't recommend Des Plaines Theater enough! Check out their lineup, grab your tickets, and treat yourself and your loved ones to an unforgettable night out. This place is a true gem in...
Read moreGreat renovation inside and outside. Parking was convenient as well in the garage right behind the venue. Only thing giving it 4 stars is the food took forever to receive inside. They only had 1 pizza oven that was huge and the pizza was good but the food section needs a bit more organized running. It got to the point ppl before us were getting their food first and we would have to continue to wait. We waited almost 45 minutes for 2 slices and my wife's slice was room temperature by the time we got our slices. The bar ran smoothly especially with 2 sides to get drinks. It does have limited seating for dining in so get there early enough or share seats with others. We went to see Everclear which was an amazing concert especially sitting 3 rows from the stage. The way Ron opened up the show was fantastic. Thank you for honoring our first responders, veterans, teachers, and nurses as well as laborers and hard working Americans. Playing the National Anthem was great and I loved it as a veteran and first responder. The sound was great as well and very very well done on the inside. Can't wait to go back for another event. I'd highly recommend going and bringing friends and family to enjoy this great...
