Stepping Into square deal shoe store is like stepping back in time! I believe they’ve been in business over 100 years and it is the original family that still run it.

When you walk in they have a sign that says “don’t tell us what size shoe you wear, we will measure your feet”.

I have been buying size 10 for years and after he measured my feet he advised I was a 9.5 wide. I was buying size 10 to make up for that width of my foot at the big box stores because they don’t offer many choices of widths.

The store is extremely clean, well organized and offer a good variety of shoes and boots. They also have many pieces of equipment from bygone years that their great grandfather had at his store including a foot x-ray which was used to measure your foot.

I purchased the rubber shoe protectors to keep in my car for those Chicago rainy and snowy days. Yes a bit dorky but they protect my shoes well.

Great little family owned shoe store, took my mom which has abnormal feet (size 10 W, not just any Wide will do 😔) & they were so attentive, helpful & friendly. ✅ Example: they asked what kind of shoe is she looking for & what size, then they kept bringing shoes out to her, for her to try on! Then when she found one, it was actually a bit tight but they actually made it wider (just for her! 😉) because it's leather & can be widen out. I didn't even know they could do that! At the end, she did ended up buying them, she has been looking for shoes for more than 6 years, I'm so glad that the 1st time coming here. I purchased shoes at Square Deal twice so far and I plan to make it my go to store for shoes and purses. I have not enjoyed shopping this much since going to Mary Walter in Evanston and then in Chicago. The family that owns the store and sells the shoes seem to be warm, friendly, honest, helpful, hard-working, and just plain inspiring! The shoes are beautiful, comfortable, and of excellent quality, without being outrageously expensive. Love the people, the place, and the product they sell.
