Stormy weather canceled our flight and forced an overnight hotel stay in Chicago. No room service option led us to Sultan Kebab & Shawarma a family-owned bakery and restaurant walking distance from the hotel. Clearly known to tradespeople and airport workers as reflective vests were common among the folks seated and waiting for “to go” meals. The menu on the back wall has several options and combos that made it hard to decide for fear of missing out. Several good choices and only time for one meal. I changed my initial kabob order for the Sultan Special Shawarma plate and then worried that I had fallen for a packaged marketing ploy. A bit of everything on a platter salad, falafel, hummus, pita and yes, Chicken Shawarma. The falafel was the first item tasted, and its accompanying sauce was stunning, but that’s one item – could the rest of the platter be as good? I approached each new item with a bit of trepidation – could this tasting of each new item be as good? Yes, yes indeed. Each item was distinctive, tasty and oh so good. Even more fun was the selection of fruit and non-alcoholic beverages in the cooler near the register. Try the mango, you are welcome. If you find yourself anywhere near either of their two Sultan Kabob Chicago locations stop in and make plans to be treated. Treated like a sultan with a...

I was told it comes with rice and hummus, and it comes with pita bread and the falafel with the salad. That is not what happened. They only have a choice of rice falafel salad, or falafel salad hummus.
There are so many mixed reviews. The hummus is absolutely disgusting. Like the one person commented it does taste like chalk with lemon. I tasted a little bit and spit it right out. 0.7/10
The falafel was fresh, but lack seasoning. 4/10
The rice was abundant, but tasted like it was boiled in tapwater. 3/10
The salad, which is usually Jerusalem was a joke. It was literally just spring mix with one sliced tomato, a little oil and pepper no onions! 6/10
I wasted my money and I went to potbellies and got their hummus, which is actually delicious.
I will never...
Read moreLittle confused. Mediterranean place with Sriracha hot sauce? Anyway, place has your typical Mediterranean dishes and lunch specials during the week. Their combo platters DO NOT come with any falafel, which is usually the norm at most places. Food was normal portion for a Med. restaurant. Flavor would improve, I needed to add salt and pepper (never have I EVER had to do this before). Their yogurt was bland and unflavorful. Their hot sauce was rather embarrassing ..it tastes like Texas Pete. The bottle is of Sriracha, but not the right color OR consistency. Seems like majority of reviewers are tourists unfamiliar with Mediterranean food. This place doesn't scream anything authentic, by the inside decorations up to the hot sauce. Their service was also rather slow. The food came out hit, juicy, it just LACKS FLAVOR! So disappointed our experience here. We also spent $47 on 2 dishes and 1...
