So I ate here 3 out of 4 of my nights here in Mammoth Lakes, mainly because they have a parking lot and the other parking options are paid or bordering on illegal if you want a sit down meal. And their kitchen is open until 9pm. I ended up here the first night for that exact reason which was that the pizza parlor's parking lot was so full I couldn't park and had to back out of the lot because I couldn't turn around, so I came here. Here's where I'm confused and where they lost me tonight: I came in for night 4 of 4 to go ahead and eat here, and I kept overhearing them say no, we don't serve food downstairs. You have to be seated upstairs if you want to eat or order takeout.... Well, either that's a complete lie, or that's just not true on weekdays, whereas I visited Friday through Sunday. And I really wanted to ask the hostess to clarify, but I kept getting ignored in favor of a couple with a dog that created a whole big hoopla who she eventually sat upstairs which took so long I left. If I could've asked my question I could've made up my mind but since I couldn't even ask I gotta go. I'm hungry, I'm tired. I don't really wanna do all this.....and everything closes by 9pm here except 1 pizza joint. I've been sitting at the bar for the last 3 nights and ordered with no issues. And I almost just went ahead and sat myself until I overheard them say this. What is perhaps just slightly worse here for them is had I eaten here on night four of four I was actually gonna buy some merch, I held off, 'cause I'm like hey, that's pretty cool, all 4 nights they had my business... But I don't really want to spend $50 on a long sleeve T-shirt when that's how I've gone out for my last night here.... I don't know, something about it just kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. The last night I was in there was a different bartender and she did last call at 9 PM when they close at 10 PM. And she closed the kitchen directly at 9 PM. Whereas the bartender's I had the other two nights were much more lenient. I feel a little crappy walking out for such a fine line, but for real that's too complicated, had this happened last night and I'd gotten in at the same time as the first two nights this would be more clear-cut, I wouldve had to leave to go get food (ironic since that's what got them my business the first time). I feel a little crappy walking out, but for real that's too complicated to have things change nightly....weekly...bartenderly.... I guess i'm gonna give the pizza place...
Read morePretty mid. My gf has an onion allergy and the burger didn’t list onions as an ingredient. When we preemptively asked to remove onions from the burgers (if they even had any, we didn’t know at the time), someone came out to the table saying it would take another 20 minutes to remove the onions, but they were able to take them off the burger and serve them immediately. They offered to exchange the bottom bun(the one that was touching onion) which was a nice gesture. There was a lot of attitude coming from this server, quipping that all allergens were listed on the menu (this was untrue). The burger was alright, nothing special but definitely not worth 20 bucks. The following day, my stomach is upset and I have been having stomach issues all day. This was our first “real” meal in 2 days after eating food we packed for this trip, so this adds to the disappointment of how bad the burgers were. The fries were cold by the time they were served. The side salad had onions dumped on top with no option to remove them. The lettuce was wilted and sad.
Got the beer flight and nothing really stood out as excellent. 2 ipas, one of which tasted like a Christmas offering. The brown ale was the standout of the bunch if you like that kind of thing. The lighter beer were very light and almost tasteless. The pale ale was solid. Honestly the best drink on the menu is the root beer, this review would be a 1 star without the root beer.
This brings me to my last gripe. You order through a QR code at the table, not a server. This makes substituting any item or customizing anything difficult if not impossible because you’re limited to the options listed as check boxes. But the check boxes don’t cover enough options. Which leaves you to flag down the nonexistent waiters. This has the double disadvantage of there being absolutely no waitstaff walking around. There’s only servers going to other tables, not yours unless your food is ready. Usually there are waiters roaming around you can flag down, but here, unless someone makes an explicit trip to you’re table, you have no help or assistance from the staff. You can order food from the bar, which had I known earlier I would have. Talking to a human is always preferred over using as app in my opinion.
Overall 2 stars feel generous because the burger was the very definition of unimpressive, the waitstaff was nice when they were around, but they...
Read moreWe expected something more having driven by the place daily, seeing they were busy and of course the reviews. We stopped in today after a day of biking and was able to get a seat. They have a great idea whereby you can essentially go online while sitting there, input your table number, place your order and then it is delivered! Bad news is, they do not offer free wifi and unless you have a network that works (well) there in the mountains, the perk is useless. Therefore, my buddy got in line - it took him 20 minutes to order. Not that there were numerous people in front of him (only 2 parties) but rather, limited staff to take any orders. After placing the order, we waited approximately 20 minutes before one of the meals came out, whereas mine didn't. About 10 minutes later, I asked a waitress where my burger was and she said it was it's way out. 15 minutes later, my burger arrived with an acknowledgement they forgot about it. By this time, my buddy had already eaten his meal and got to sit there watching me eat mine. The burger, while somewhat tasty, was way over cooked - to the point of almost crispy, whereas the bacon pieces they put on the burger were way under cooked (literally, it looked like they put them on the grill for a minute, flipped it and then called it done. They were so fatty to the point it almost looked raw like so I didn't eat any of them. To be fair, every restaurant we visited this week had service issues so I'm going to assume this experience was a one off as a result of the pandemic and being able to...
