Bakery: Purchased an excellent cake here. As far as cakes you can buy in the area, this has been the best. Everything about the cake was just right- moisture, texture, flavor, sweetness, freshness of the cake and the fruit pieces with it. šš Ok, one concern: the plastic transport shell provided is too flimsy and grocery-store quality. It wouldn't stay snapped together and barely helped with getting the cake to the party. Something sturdier would be much better. Losing one of these cakes to flimsy plastic would be terrible.
Restaurant: Wow. Friendly customer service and bilingual. Fresh, clean, open space that feels pleasant but not industrial. Sufficient room to move about. The decor is minimal but bold without being intrusive and gives a subtle theme without being blatant. It's tasteful. Best of all, *no gaudy Stereotypical touristy decorations in your face to make sure you know what country is {supposedly} represented. The tables are clean and comfortable (not to high or low or crammed). Overall, the service was timely. The food is excellent and authentic. It was served hot, cooked properly, well presented, delicious, and well portioned. The menu has variety in both choices and types of food. It's logically organized- you don't have to "decipher it". If you have questions the staff will give you an honest answer.
I'm not easily impressed anymore, but Don Jose's Kitchen and Bakery have both hit the mark; and I hope they...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI ordered Beef Stew among other orders for my family over the phone while I was driving home from work. One of the orders was Beef Stew, but the Manager, Jessica, kept saying, "Beef Soup". I said several times, No, Beef Stew, then told her to look on the menu for Beef Stew. She said, ok, and read the orders back to me. She kept saying Beef Soup. I said again, No, Beef Stew. When I arrived, I saw that it was Beef Soup, Jessica, the Manager said, she kept saying Soup and I kept saying yes. She kept arguing with me and finally I told her to take the Soup back as I didn't want it and wanted the Beef Stew, which on the menu said Carne Guisada, Latin Beef Stew. I waited 15 min. The other food I ordered for my family was getting cold. When I asked for lemon butter sauce with Capers for the Calamari, she said ok. When I got home, my family said the food was cold, and the lemon butter sauce with Capers looked and tasted like oil from the fried calamari with Capers in the bottom, it was AWFUL. We threw out the sauce and put the rest of the food in the microwaved the food, which didn't taste very good reheated. We will NOT be back - there are a LOT of restaurants in the area we will go to. Sorry to Don Jose, but his Manager is terrible and rude to customers. No one was in the restaurant and it...
Read moreThis morning my husband and I were craving for some frijolitos and fried eggs for breakfast, but did not want to make it ourselves, but also knew finding a decent Central American Restaurant was going to be near to impossible in this area. We gave this new restaurant in town a try. I am delighted with Don Jose's Kitchen, surprises abound at this modern Central American spot, tucked away in Manassas City. From the warm welcome of their attentive and friendly staff to their presentation of their flavorsome dishes, my husband as a Guatemalan himself comments that this restaurant is sure to take you back in memory to your abuela's (Grandmother's) kitchen. We enjoyed our Desayuno Chapin, Steak & Eggs Ranchero, and a Pork Tamale. I also enjoyed a piña empanada with my cup of coffee from their cute and clean Bakery next door. A must visit restaurant if you enjoy and craving for a typical Central American breakfast, or just looking for some pastries for your afternoon cafesito. They even have cakes to celebrate any special occasion which I will definitely give it a try in the future. It was also a pleasure to meet Mary the restaurant's manager and daughter of the owner, and congratulate her myself for the good works, very...
