First time here as they recently opened. Service is great! Very attentive and the food came super quick. The atmosphere is also nicely decorated and we enjoyed the visit overall. The food though, it is good but like a few others mentioned the portions are quite small for the value you pay, especially compared to other Japanese restaurants in the area that are way more generous with their portion sizes. The Ramen was fair in portion size for the price and the flavor was good, but the sushi and fried octopus were so small, almost like child-size portions. The baby octopus was only 6 super tiny pieces (thin and .5" long at max). Also be aware, their tip minimum is 20% which adds even more to the pricey portions. I understand they offer small portions so they can give more variety, but that really isn't an excuse to be pricing their food so high for their portions sizes, especially when they have other 3-4 Japanese restaurants competing in the area. That said, I hope they adjust their portions in the future so we can give them another try. I understand starting out as a restaurant is challenging, but good food PLUS value for your money is what will keep your customers...

When it comes to ramen, every city has a few names that stand out. In Dallas (or Houston, Austin, depending on where you are), I recently visited Kanpai to see how it compares — and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.
Kanpai embraces a modern Japanese casual style, with warm lighting, wooden interiors, and minimalist décor that create a cozy atmosphere. The staff were attentive — greeting guests right away, checking in occasionally, and overall making the experience enjoyable. • Broth: Well-balanced, flavorful, but not overly salty or fatty. Kanpai’s ramen feels lighter and more refined, perfect for those who enjoy a cleaner flavor without losing depth. • Noodles: Nicely springy, holding their texture throughout the meal. • Chashu (pork belly): Tender with just the right amount of fat — rich but not overwhelming. It doesn’t quite melt in your mouth, but it’s executed well. • Ajitsuke Tamago (seasoned egg): A perfectly soft-boiled egg with a creamy yolk that adds richness to the broth.
👉 Overall, Kanpai Ramen is worth trying if you’re looking for a bowl that’s flavorful yet not too heavy, served in a modern and...
Read moreThe service and atmosphere are spectacular. Knowing this was from the Yujo team had me and my fiancee excited.
We ordered quite a few things and overall the food was all top notch, but I have to give it low marks.
The quality is there. But some dishes are genuinely not worth the price point.
Rice bowls - $18-24 and it's only about half a cup of rice and 2 pieces of protein. I was genuinely shocked when this arrived at the table. The item is priced as if it was an entree, but it's barely an appetizer.
Yakitori - $9-25 for a single skewer. Nearly everywhere else I've had yakitori, it's been $2-5 a skewer. I had assumed this came with 2 skewers per order since the pricing would be in line with everywhere else I've been, but to my disappointment, it's only a singular skewer.
The ramen is priced a little above average but the quality is worth it.
