I would love to give less than 1 star but couldn't. My family used to frequent this restaurant at this location but moved from the area making it not as easy to pop into. Tonight I thought I'd treat my son and husband on Father's day and we were in the area so we headed in at 6pm.
When we entered, they appeared busy, even though the parking lot was not packed. They said it would be an hour wait and my husband said let's go elsewhere but then we were told we could seat ourselves at a hightop table near the bar right then, so we did. I went to wash up after getting my hands sticky pulling the chair out and noticed their main dining area had more than half the tables open with people waiting to be seated. We had a table and sat waiting for our order to be taken.
It took about 15-20 minutes to get our order taken, just 2 entréys, no appetizers. It took an exceedingly long time to have our food brought to us; 2 identical meals: Bedda Cheddar burgers, medium well with waffle fries and seasoned dipping sauce. No alcohol, 1 lemonade and one Arnold Palmer. The food arrived at 7pm, and my husband and I looked at each other after biting into our fries...they were hard, barely warm and dried out. The bartender stopped to ask how our food was tasting and I was honest and told him our fries tasted like they sat under the warmer for a really long time. We were told he would get us some fresh ones made and ask the manager to check in with us.
The manager stopped by and tried to make things right...offered us a dessert and to take some $s off the bill. At 7:10 they brought out our fries (they were much like the first batch) and the bartender said he was going to check on our cookies, the Mgr had told us it would take 6 minutes to cook them. At 7:35 we still hadn't gotten our bill or the cookies. We had to ask for our bill which was still high considering the service and quality of the food. (I had also shared twice that the brioche buns on our burgers were hard as a rock...I even broke off a piece to give the manager!) As I was paying, muttering under my breath, they brought a box with our cookies and toppings, we grabbed it and left swiftly...not looking back!
When getting to the vehicle I opened the box to see our featherweight cookies...only to be disappointed again. They looked totally unappetizing.
We WILL NOT waste our time and money...
Read moreMy wife and I went to Granite City Maple Grove, where we've been many times, to enjoy a nice dinner before a movie at the Plymouth Mann. We were on a bit of a schedule. I'm not the type to write negative reviews since in every business there are mistakes made etc. usually beyond someone's control. Usually someone tries to make it right. That being said, I was astonished at my experience and I feel compelled to share. Mid-day Friday Nov. 9th we made a reservation on open table for 5:45 pm. Upon entering Granite City exactly on time we were told they "did not have the reservation" and the wait was 20-30 minutes. Slightly annoyed at the fact they haven't quite figured out their technology I showed both hostesses my confirmation email from open table for the 5:45 reservation. They did absolutely nothing and they did not apologize. Blank stares. They clearly saw, but failed to acknowledge, the fact that there was a mistake here. We were given a buzzer and told to wait the 20-30 minutes. So, sitting by the outside door where it is freezing we proceeded to wait while we watched the many walk-ins seated before us. I fully expected that upon showing the reservation to the hostess they'd at least attempt to accommodate us somehow, apologize, or get us into a table. My advice: if you want to make a reservation do not go through open table because there's a chance the venue "won't have it". I would recommend making it directly with Granite City. The food was fine, the server was kind and gracious, but we had to eat quickly in order to make our date work. It didn't ruin the whole outing but I was pretty surprised and a little angry that they made my wife and I wait behind all the other walk-ins due to their mistake. I think the reason it really miffed me was because I was able to show proof of the reservation and they couldn't have cared less. That was my experience I hope you have a better one! Remember, make your reservation directly with...
Read moreWe went to the Mother's Day brunch. We have been here for brunch several times before however the experience this time wasn't as nice.
It started nicely. Every mom was given a long stem flower which was a nice touch.
It was obvious they were trying to maximize the number of guests they could serve. When I made the reservation, when they called to confirm the reservation, and when they seated us at our table they told us we were allowed 1 hour 15 minutes from the time we were seated to be there. The amount of time wasn't inadequate however it was just repeated so many times that it was very over the top.
I wish they would have put more effort into the quality of the food as they did in getting guests in and out the door.
There was a good variety of food, however, it was very inconsistent. My husband's cinnamon roll was amazing and the one my mother got was dry. The hashbrown potatoes were amazing on the first trip up to the buffet but a second helping later on had potatoes that were still a little crunchy and onions that were half done as well.
They had 1 person running the omelet station AND the meat carving station. He was doing his best and was very efficient. When I was ready for some prime rib there was only a small piece of well-done meat left. I was able to get a medium rare piece later on when someone replenished it.
When the staff was replenishing the dishes on the main buffet table they made my daughter feel as if she was in the way.
There wasn't a dessert station but when the waitress brought the bill she brought 4 tiny little desserts. They were very nice but not the flavors that we would have chosen so the four of us shared two of them.
They would have been better off with fewer hostesses and more cooking/serving staff. Overall they were trying to do too much for the space they had.
We will be starting a new tradition next Mother's day instead of attending...
