So who doesn't love a trip to the bakery? As if I didn't have enough pandemic pounds to lose, I am still always looking for a great place to visit. So I decided to visit Great Harvest Bread Company. They have two locations which are located in Kirkwood and Maplewood. I happen to live in Maplewood so I decided to take a walk on a nice day and I ventured inside. As if the thought of fresh baked goods is not tempting enough the first smell that hits you is the aroma of fresh coffee. A coffee shop up front and a bakery in back? Your diet doesn't stand a chance so just give in! So I make it to the counter in back and I am confronted with a wonderful selection of difficult choices. A few moments later and I am leaving with oatmeal raisin cookies, 2 giant cinnamon rolls and a loaf of cinnamon chip bread. All items were freshly baked. The oatmeal raisin cookies were perfect. Soft and chewy but not too sweet. The cinnamon chip bread is an experience in deliciousness. You will be absolutely hooked. I have one major complaint about the cinnamon rolls. My complaint is that they are only available twice a week. But I guess that gives me something to look forward to. The best ingredient in the house is an inviting staff that is warm and friendly. Total home run for this amazing establishment. Add a few more minutes to the treadmill because I will definitely be...
Read moreA loaf of bread that costs $9.55 should taste good if not great. The texture of the high fiber bread I got was poor and it tasted almost stale. I got sourdough and marbled rye in the past and they tasted below my expectations too but I decided to visit a third time because I kept hearing good things from others. This is one of those many overpriced and overrated places in Saint Louis that get endorsed and hyped up by so many people for reasons that are unknown to me. And please stop comparing everything to California! This is not California. A mediocre bread like this should taste no more than $4 in Saint Louis. The set up and ambiance are great, especially because itâs attached to a great coffee shop but definitely not worth making a special trip to buy...
Read moreI am giving two stars instead of one for the friendliness and quick service of the staff. My companion and I did not experience any problems in these areas. However, the food itself was just not great. We were surprised at how not good the bread was in our sandwiches considering bread is what does company does. On top of this the sandwich ingredients were very basic with no wow factor at all, I could have easily made something better than this at home, even the bread part. The only redeeming quality was the bacon on the sandwhich was the best part, the staff (as mentioned previously), and the fact that this bread co. is attached to the coffee shop, which is pretty cool! Would return to the coffee shop but not to the bread co....
